Women’s T20 World Cup will be played in Pakistan from 7 September to 1 October 2028. This tournament of 12 teams has been hosted by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the first time. Pakistan wants that except India’s matches, the remaining matches of the tournament should be held in its place. India’s matches can be held in UAE. The reason for this is the long-running political tension between India and Pakistan and the hybrid model of ICC. Why can India’s matches be held in UAE? What will happen if India reaches knockout? India is among the strong teams in women’s cricket. Therefore, while deciding the venues for the knockout matches of the tournament, the possibility of India reaching the semi-finals or final will also have to be kept in mind. According to reports, the PCB official has said that if India does not reach the final, the title match can be held in Lahore. 10 places fixed in the 12-team tournament. A total of 12 teams will participate in the 2028 Women’s T20 World Cup. Of these, eight teams secured a place in the group stage of the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup on the basis of their performance. These teams are Australia, India, South Africa, Bangladesh, England, West Indies, New Zealand and Sri Lanka. Pakistan has got a direct place due to being the host. Ireland also gained a place in the ICC Women’s T20 Rankings on the cut-off date. The remaining two teams will come from the 10-team Global Qualifier. The distance in cricket also increased after the Pahalgam attack. Tension between India and Pakistan is not new, but the situation worsened after the Pahalgam terrorist attack in April 2025. On April 22, 26 people lost their lives in the attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. India then took action under Operation Sindoor in May 2025. Military tension also increased between the two countries. Its effect was visible on cricket also. The men’s team did not shake hands, the women’s team also adopted the same stance. After the Pahalgam attack, the tradition of shaking hands in India-Pakistan matches also became a subject of controversy. In the Men’s Asia Cup held in UAE in September 2025, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav and Pakistani captain Salman Ali Aga did not shake hands at the time of the toss. Even after the match, Indian players did not shake hands with the Pakistani team. Suryakumar had dedicated the win to the victims of the Pahalgam attack and the Indian Armed Forces. After this, the Indian women’s team also adopted the same stance. Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Pakistani captain Fatima Sana did not shake hands during the toss during the Women’s ODI World Cup in Colombo, Sri Lanka in October 2025. What else in the 2028-29 cricket calendar?
