36 people died in two separate bus accidents in Pakistan on Sunday (25 August). 36 people were also injured in both the accidents.
According to Pakistani newspaper Dawn, a bus going from Kahuta to Rawalpindi fell into a ditch due to brake failure. There were 26 passengers in the bus, out of which 25 died and another is injured. The accident took place on Girari Bridge on Kahuta Azad Pattan Road in Punjab province of Pakistan.
The second accident happened near Bujji Top on Makran Highway in Balochistan. Here a bus overturned due to over speeding. 11 passengers died and 35 were injured in this accident. There were 60 passengers in the bus, out of which 4 are still trapped. Police is trying to rescue the trapped passengers with a crane.
Relief work is going on after the accident. The administration took the injured to the hospital.
The bus was bringing pilgrims from Iran
The bus that overturned due to overspeeding in Balochistan was carrying pilgrims from Iran. According to the local police, the bus overturned due to overspeeding near Bujji Top after going out of the driver’s control.
The injured people have been admitted to the hospital. Four passengers are still trapped in the bus, who are being rescued with the help of a crane. The passengers in the bus are said to be from Lahore and Gujranwala.
Travel from Gabad to Gwadar in Iran banned
Following the accident, the Gwadar district administration has banned travel from Gabad in Iran to Gwadar for the safety of pilgrims. District Magistrate Hamudur Rahman said, “Iran has banned the entry of pilgrims, so they should avoid any travel at this time.”
He said that this ban is being imposed to improve the travel facilities for the pilgrims.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister expressed grief over the incident
Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the accident. According to Pakistani radio, he prayed for the peace of the souls of those killed in the accident. He also directed to provide immediate medical and other relief assistance to the injured.
President Asif Ali Zardari also expressed his condolences over the accident and called for speeding up relief activities.
Pakistan PM Shahbaz Sharif expressed grief over the incident.
A bus carrying Pakistani pilgrims overturned in Iran on Tuesday
Earlier, a bus carrying Pakistani pilgrims overturned in Iran on Tuesday (August 20), killing 28 passengers. This accident happened on Tuesday night. 23 passengers were also injured in the accident.
The bus was carrying pilgrims from Pakistan to Iraq. According to Iran’s news agency IRNA, this accident happened in Iran’s Yazd province. There were 51 passengers on the bus.
The pilgrims were on their way to Iraq to attend the Arbaeen Memorial Festival, held every year on the 40th day since the death of a 7th-century Shia saint.
This bus was going to Iraq carrying pilgrims from Pakistan.
