Supporters of his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) started a long march from Lakki Marwat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, demanding the release of former PM Imran Khan. On August 18, the Supreme Court had ordered to shift Imran to a private hospital in Islamabad for medical examination and treatment. The government challenged this. On the night of 20 August, he was taken to the state-run Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) instead of Shifa International Hospital. The government cited security as the reason for this. After the investigation, he was sent back to jail, while his personal doctor was not allowed to participate in the investigation. Even after two rounds of talks, no consensus was reached with the government. Two rounds of talks were held between the government and PTI on Friday and Saturday, but no consensus was reached. PTI was demanding an immediate meeting with Imran and shifting him to a hospital where his personal doctor could examine and treat him. Apart from this, the party demanded the release of Imran’s sisters and arrested supporters, medical examination of Bushra Bibi and non-interference hearing of the cases. A condition for canceling the protest was set by the government. Differences over terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pakistan’s Minister of State for Home Talal Chaudhary said the talks failed mainly because the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government could not assure the Center of cooperation in the fight against terrorism. Terrorist violence has been going on in this province ruled by PTI for a long time. Imran supporters said – Do not care about life, will not step back. March will pass through Karak, Kohat and Peshawar, preparations to stop entry into Islamabad. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi announced on Sunday night that the march will continue. Supporters from Tank, Dera Ismail Khan, South Waziristan, North Waziristan, Bannu and Lakki Marwat joined the march from Gandhi Chowk. The convoy will proceed via Karak, Kohat and Peshawar. On October 6, people of Kohat, Hangu, Kurram and Orakzai will join, while on October 7, supporters of Peshawar and on October 8, supporters of Charsadda and Mohammedan will join. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sharif’s political advisor Rana Sanaullah said that the protesters will not be allowed to enter Islamabad. The central government has deployed additional security forces on roads leading to the capital and placed shipping containers on the routes. If the march extends further, Shahbaz’s chair will be in danger. Avinash Mohanani, who was posted in the Indian High Commission in Pakistan, said that the long march of Imran supporters will increase the pressure on the Shahbaz government as soon as they enter Punjab from Khyber.
