Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari became the victim of an accident in Dubai on Wednesday. According to Pakistani news website The Dawn, while getting off the plane at Dubai Airport, his foot slipped and he fell. The bone in his leg is broken.

Pakistan’s President’s Office confirmed this on Thursday. Zardari was immediately taken to the hospital after the fall. After examining his leg, the doctors put a plaster on his leg. This plaster will remain in place for four weeks. After the accident, President Zardari has been sent home and has been advised to take complete rest.

In March last year, he underwent eye surgery in UAE.

69-year-old Zardari has been battling several health problems in recent years. Earlier in 2022, he had to be hospitalized for a week due to chest infection. Even after being corona positive this year, he remained hospitalized.

Asif Ali Zardari took over as the 14th President of Pakistan by defeating Imran Khan’s party candidate Mahmood Khan Achakzai in February this year. Zardari also became President in the year 2008. He is the husband of Benazir Bhutto, the country’s first female Prime Minister.

Older relationship with scams

Zardari is called Mr. 10% in Pakistan. This is because during Benazir’s tenure as Prime Minister, he used to demand 10% commission in exchange for getting permission for any project or loan from the government.

Zardari was also arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in a case of sending money out of Pakistan through fake bank accounts.

Asif Ali Zardari is the first President of Pakistan to complete his tenure.

Pakistan’s then dictator General Zia-ul-Haq died in a plane crash in 1988. After this, Benazir’s party won the general elections and Bhutto became the first woman Prime Minister of the country. Zardari mostly stayed away from Benazir government. However, during this period, Zardari started being accused of scams in many government related matters.

Former caretaker of Pakistan PM Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi, Zardari had started investigating scams against him. After the fall of Benazir’s government, he was banned from leaving the country.

After this, many allegations were made against Zardari like corruption, kidnapping, bank fraud and conspiracy to murder. He was imprisoned from 1997 to 2004. He got bail in November 2004.

However, he was arrested again after failing to attend the murder trial.
