He collected huge sums of money from many influential officials and then absconded. According to the Defense Minister, the officers whose names have come to light in this case have held important positions in different governments and have close relations with influential people. However, Asif neither disclosed the names of the officers nor disclosed the amount of the fraud. Asif raised questions on the loyalty of officers. Asif raised questions as to how loyal the officers were to Pakistan, who received facilities and respect while holding government posts. He alleged that some officials got opportunities to amass wealth through legal and illegal means due to their proximity to political leaders. He questioned whether such officers consider Pakistan as their permanent home or consider it only a stopover before going abroad. Former Indian security advisor also expressed concern. Pakistan affairs expert and former member of the National Security Advisory Board, Tilak Devshar also reacted to Asif’s statement. He wrote on social media platform X that something is going seriously wrong in Pakistan. Quoting the Defense Minister’s statement, Devshar said that a large number of government officials had made preparations to go abroad while still in service.
