Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, an alliance partner of the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in Maharashtra, on Friday spoke about the chief ministerial candidate. He said that his party will unconditionally support any candidate announced by the Congress and Sharad Pawar’s NCP in the upcoming assembly elections.
Uddhav Thackeray stressed during an MVA meeting that the Maharashtra Assembly elections to be held later this year will be a fight to protect the self-respect of the state.
Thackeray said, “There is speculation about the MVA’s CM face. I appeal to all the alliance leaders, be it Prithviraj Chavan or Sharad Pawar, to declare their choice for CM and I will support them unconditionally.” He urged the MVA allies to first announce the chief ministerial candidate and then start the campaign.
‘We follow this rule…’
Uddhav Thackeray has urged MVA allies to first announce the CM candidate and then start campaigning. He stressed, “We used to follow the rule that whoever wins more seats will get the CM post. We followed the same formula in earlier alliances as well. So I appeal that first we have to announce the CM face, only then we can start our campaign.”

On losing the party’s election symbol to the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction, Thackeray said, “Even though they stole my ‘bow and arrow’ election symbol, I have taken ‘lighting the torch’ as a symbol to put fire on their back.”
Let us tell you that in February last year, the Election Commission had given the name of the ‘Shiv Sena’ party and its bow-arrow symbol to the Eknath Shinde faction. Eknath Shinde had joined hands with the BJP to form the government in the state in the year 2022.
‘Fighting among ourselves should be avoided…’
Uddhav Thackeray further said, “They divided our party and then the NCP. However, Congress is lucky that it has retained its ‘paw’ symbol. Now, the Congress’s hand will hold our ‘torch’ and the NCP’s mavala (fighter) will blow the trumpet of our victory.”
He stressed that the alliance should reach every corner of the state with these symbols and avoid fighting among themselves.
