Indian Army Major Prabhat Mishra has won two top academic awards at the US Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC). Major Mishra has been awarded the Birr-Brooks Award for the outstanding Master of Military Arts and Science thesis. At the same time, he has also been honored with the General Douglas MacArthur Military Leadership Writing Award. Officials from 92 countries participated in this 10-month leadership program. This year 951 got the degree. This college of America is one of the most prominent military education institutions in the world. Since 1894, 8,700 officers from 170 countries have received training. Major Prabhat Mishra was honored at the convocation ceremony of the Command and General Staff Officer Course of the US Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, USA. He received two awards – – Birr-Brooks Award for Outstanding Master of Military Arts and Science Thesis – General Douglas MacArthur Military Leadership Writing Award The course is a 10-month advanced military leadership programme, which was attended by 951 officers in this batch. These also included 120 international military officers. Course Objective: This program prepares mid-level military officers for senior leadership and staff responsibilities. Addressing the ceremony, senior US Army officer Jim Eisenhower stressed the important role of field-grade officers. Defense cooperation between India and the US has grown steadily over the last two decades through joint military exercises, officer exchanges and defense education programs. This achievement of Major Prabhat Mishra is being considered as the result of this strong partnership. Who is Major Prabhat Mishra? – Prabhat Mishra is Major of 22 Kumaon Regiment. The first Indian officer since 1948 to win the Birr-Brooks Award. – He is also the first Indian to win the Douglas MacArthur Military Leadership Award. – He was also awarded the ‘Golden Pen’ for his scholarly contribution.
