The investigation into the Rs 60 crore loan-cum-investment fraud case registered against film actress Shilpa Shetty and her husband businessman Raj Kundra has intensified. The Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) has interrogated Raj Kundra twice so far and is preparing to call him for the third time, while Shilpa was questioned for 4 hours at her Juhu home on October 4. Now Raj Kundra’s statement has come out in this matter. He told during investigation that due to demonetization his entire family was badly affected financially and they were drowned in debt.

Kundra said – Company suffered huge loss in demonetization
According to EOW sources, Kundra told that his company Best Deal TV Private Limited (which sold electronics and home appliances) suffered huge financial losses after the 2016 demonetization. Due to cash crunch they were unable to return the investor’s money on time.
Serious allegations made in the complaint
This case was registered on the complaint of Mumbai businessman Deepak Kothari. Kothari alleges that he was induced to invest about Rs 60 crore in the company between 2015 and 2023. The investment was to be in TV shopping business, but the amount was allegedly diverted for personal use.
Shilpa said – I am not involved in financial disputes
During questioning, Shilpa said that she had started the company with her husband, but the latter had no role in its financial or day-to-day operations. All decisions were taken by Kundra and the management team.

Demand to remove LOC in High Court
Both of them filed a petition in the Mumbai High Court seeking temporary suspension of the Look Out Circular (LOC) and permission to travel abroad from October 2025 to January 2026. The court said that this is a case of serious economic crime, hence travel cannot be allowed just for entertainment. The couple’s lawyer clarified that only the trip to Phuket was for leisure, the rest were planned for professional reasons.
strict conditions of the court
The bench clarified – the petition will be considered only when the accused deposit the entire amount of Rs 60 crore. The next hearing will be on 14 October 2025. The court acknowledged that it was only because of cooperation in the investigation that no arrests have been made so far.

Forensic investigation started
The EOW has initiated a forensic investigation into all the financial transactions and accounts of the company, along with examining the bank accounts and investment trails from which the investment funds were transferred. Kundra-Shetty’s lawyer says – both are innocent and the transactions are transparent. New information related to the case may emerge in the coming weeks.
