Nana Patekar passed away at the age of 75. After cardiac arrest in Goa, he was taken to the hospital, but doctors could not save him. On his death, many people including Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Nana. On the second day of India Mobile Congress, PM Modi said that Nana was an extraordinary artiste, who made a place in the hearts of the audience through different characters. PM Modi said that Nana Patekar ji’s life was dedicated to the honour, pride and glory of the tricolor. He did not remain in bondage, he flew in the sky of films like a bird. He strongly attacked the system prevailing in the society through his films. He further said that he was a revolutionary who worked against evil. As loud as his speech was, his silence was equally effective. He was a supporter of continuous control on anti-nationals. I pay tribute to Nana Patekar ji and express my condolences to his family and loved ones. Akshay Kumar said – It is difficult to believe that you are gone. Akshay Kumar had worked with Nana in (Welcome) and recently (Housefull 5). He said that Nana was one of those rare artists who did not need to do much to grab the audience’s attention. Akshay remembered her voice, intensity and sincerity in every performance. He wrote that Nana’s loss cannot be expressed in words. Riteish Deshmukh said – End of an era Riteish Deshmukh said on Nana’s demise that he had no words and after hearing this news it felt as if a truck had run over him. Ritesh called him an unmatched actor. He worked with Nana in (Bluffmaster) and (Housefull 5). Ritesh said that working with Nana in a Marathi film remained his unfulfilled wish. Mehul Kumar said – Nana Patekar has always been a down to earth person. In a conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, director Mehul Kumar, remembering Nana Patekar, said that he did three memorable films with him like Tiranga, Krantiveer and Kohram. He told that Nana was a very down to earth person and walked with the truth. Even after the success of his films and receiving many awards, his behavior never changed. Mehul Kumar told that Nana had not done three films with any other director. Regarding Krantiveer, Dilip Kumar had also said that people will always remember Nana by the name of this character. He told that Amitabh Bachchan was initially a little hesitant in working with Nana during the chaos, but Nana and Amitabh later became good friends. There was also a good bonding between Nana and Raj Kumar on the sets of (Tiranga). Mehul Kumar said that Nana was not just a star but also a good human being. He helped the poor and farmers a lot. His name will always be remembered. Udit Narayan said – I am shaken after hearing the news of Nana’s demise. In a conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, Singer Udit Narayan expressed grief over the demise of Nana Patekar and said that he could not believe it after hearing this news early in the morning. He said that Nana’s demise at the age of 75 is a big loss for the film industry and the country. As an actor he was second to none and as a human being he also had a wonderful personality. Udit told that he got a chance to work with Nana. During the recording of a film, Nana himself sang on the mic and told how he wanted the song to be. Udit sang for him in one take, after which Nana praised him. He also shared memories of working with Nana in (Tiranga). Junior NTR said – Honesty was visible in every character. South star Junior NTR called Nana one of the best actors of Indian cinema. He said that a special honesty and intensity was visible in every character of Nana. His performance did not seem like acting, but like life unfolding on screen. NTR said that Nana’s contribution to Indian cinema will be remembered for generations. Prakash Raj said – Conversations and debates will always be remembered. Actor Prakash Raj, while remembering Nana, said that he will always remember the moments spent with him, conversations, debates and the food prepared by Nana. He also remembered the lessons he learned from Nana and said that he will always be grateful for his coming into his life. Nitin Gadkari remembered his friendship. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that he and Nana Patekar had very close and friendly relations. He recalled Nana’s career spanning over five decades and his distinctive dialogue delivery. Gadkari also paid tribute to Nana’s work for farmers and rural families through the NAM Foundation. Suvendu Adhikari said – Indian cinema has lost its special voice. West Bengal leader Suvendu Adhikari described Nana as the outspoken and special voice of Indian cinema. He recalled her performances in (Parinda), (Krantiveer), (Prahar) and (Ab Tak Chhappan). He also mentioned Nana’s social work and efforts for rural communities. Nana’s career spanning nearly five decades Nana Patekar started his film career in 1978 with Gaman. He also worked in theater along with Hindi and Marathi cinema. His characters in films like Parinda, Krantiveer, Prahar, Ab Tak Chhappan, Natsamrat, Welcome and Housefull 5 were memorable. He received three National Film Awards and was awarded the Padma Shri in 2013.
