Nana Patekar’s real name is Vishwanath Patekar. In his childhood, one of his younger sisters used to affectionately call him ‘Nana’, after which this name became his identity.
Veteran actor Nana Patekar died on Thursday morning at the age of 75. He suffered a cardiac attack at his home in Goa. He was given CPR for about 45 minutes, but could not be saved.
According to Dr. Shekhar Salkar of Manipal Hospital, Nana Patekar died at 5:20 in the morning. A medico-legal case (MLC) has been registered after his death and postmortem will be conducted.
Became a villain in ‘Parinda’, won 3 National Awards
Nana did more than 100 films. Nana Patekar played the role of Anna in the 1989 film ‘Parinda’, for which he received the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor. He received the National Award for Best Actor for 1994’s ‘Krantiveer’.
He also received the National Award for Best Supporting Actor for 1996’s ‘Agnisakshi’. In this way he received 3 National Film Awards in his career. Nana Patekar was awarded the Padma Shri in 2013 for his contribution to Indian cinema. In his long film career, he worked in Hindi as well as Marathi films.

PM Modi said – will be remembered for many generations
On the demise of Nana Patekar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said,
There were only a few actors who had depth, distinct identity and special presence like Nana Patekar. He showed great diversity and creativity in every character. The characters played by him will be remembered for many generations.

Akshay Kumar said-
I am very saddened by the news of Nana ji’s demise. He was one of those few artists who didn’t require much to make you stop and look. I consider myself lucky that I got the opportunity to work with him in (Welcome) and then more recently (Housefull 5). There are so many memories from the sets of both those films, which I will always keep close to my heart.

Ritesh Deshmukh said-
I have no words. The news of Nana Patekar ji’s demise makes me feel as if a truck has run over me. I am extremely sad. He was a great actor and had no competition. He was a hero off screen also. He worked continuously for the welfare of people through his charity.

Shikhar Dhawan said-
Indian cinema has lost a very special talent today. Nana Patekar Saheb, your work will continue to inspire future generations. Om peace.

Uday Shetty became famous in comedy in ‘Welcome’
Nana Patekar played the role of gangster Uday Shetty in the 2007 film ‘Welcome’. This comedy role was liked a lot. He was also seen in the role of Uday Shetty in its sequel ‘Welcome Back’.

Many memes were made on the dialogues of Nana’s character played by Uday Shetty. The most popular scene in which was the one where he says to calm himself down—”Control Uday… Control!”
Took military training for the film Prahar
Nana Patekar had undergone military training with the Maratha Light Infantry of the Indian Army to play the role of an Army Major in the film ‘Prahar: The Final Attack’. During this period he had trained for about three years.
After completing training, Nana Patekar joined the Territorial Army. He received commission as Honorary Captain. He later served up to the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel and retired in 2013.

Stayed with the army even during the Kargil war
Nana Patekar’s association with the army also came to light during the 1999 Kargil war. According to reports, he took special permission from the then Defense Minister George Fernandes and spent about 2 to 3 weeks i.e. 15-20 days with the army in the forward areas.
During this time he visited areas like Dras, Leh, Kupwara and Sopore. Reports also suggest that he spent time with the Army’s Quick Reaction Team (QRT).
Nana Patekar had said in an interview that every person should do something from his/her side for the country. His respect for the army soldiers has come to the fore on many occasions. In 2016, he had said that for him the country comes first and the soldiers are the real heroes of the country.

Expressing grief over the demise of Nana Patekar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that there were only a few actors who had depth, distinct identity and special presence like Nana Patekar. Modi said that Nana was also known for his outspoken and clear thoughts. He never hesitated to say what he believed.
He said that Nana Patekar’s contribution to Hindi and Marathi cinema was huge. His demise has created a deep void. The Prime Minister expressed condolences to Nana’s family, friends and millions of his fans and paid tribute to him.

Actor Riteish Deshmukh paid tribute to Nana Patekar by sharing an emotional post on social media. He wrote that he is completely shocked by this news.


Janiyur NTR also expressed grief over Nana’s demise.
