Nana Patekar’s father Dinkar Patekar ran a small textile printing business in Murud-Janjira village of Raigarh district.
Nana Patekar died on Thursday morning at the age of 75. He suffered a cardiac arrest at his home in Goa. After this he was taken to the hospital, where CPR was given for about 45 minutes, but the doctors could not save him.
Nana left behind many such stories along with films, which give a glimpse of his life’s struggles and relationships. In an interview given to Dainik Bhaskar in December 2024, he talked about his relationship with his father.
Nana considered himself inferior to others in his childhood. He felt that he was less good looking than his two brothers. For this reason, it had also settled in his mind that his father loved the other brothers more than him.

In childhood, Nana used to take part in the plays held in and around the village. Once he (Valmiki) acted in a drama. The special thing was that his father had come to the village from Mumbai to see his acting. This moment was very special for Nana. He realized that his father was also proud of his art. This experience removed the misunderstanding in his mind about his father to a great extent.

In the last days, I became a close friend of my grandfather.
Nana had told that the relationship between the two had become very deep during their father’s last days. His father would sometimes hold his hand and say that he always felt that Nana would have the feeling that he got more love from his brothers.
Nana had said that he had no complaints against his father. However, he was sad throughout his life that when his father died, he could not do anything for him. His father died in the corporation hospital and he needed money for medicines for his treatment. At that time Nana’s friends helped him financially.
