The way US President Donald Trump ridiculed European countries at the World Economic Forum held in Davos, Switzerland, has made it clear how much importance he attaches to them.
Europe also learned an important lesson from this meeting. Davos taught Europe that when all countries work together to protect borders and sovereignty, pressure from larger countries can be countered.
When Trump threatened to impose 10% tariff on these countries from February 1, Europe threatened to impose ‘trade bazooka’ on America.
This clearly meant that Europe was also ready to take counter economic steps with full force. Ultimately, Trump, who threatened the world with tariffs, had to bow before 27 countries of the European Union (EU).
Trump also went soft on Greenland and said he would not use force to capture it. He also backed down from the 10% tariff he had announced to impose on European countries.

French President Emmanuel Macron threatened to use the trade bazooka on America at the Davos Economic Forum on January 20.
After all, what is this trade bazooka due to which the world’s most powerful leader had to step back…
‘Trade Bazooka’ is actually a special law of the European Union (EU), whose real name is Anti-Coercion Instrument.
The purpose of this law is that if any country puts unfair pressure on the EU or its companies (such as threatening by imposing tariffs), then the EU can take strict economic measures in response to it.
Under this EU-
Can stop import-export of goods from that country
Can exclude its companies from EU government tenders
Can impose restrictions on investment in that country
That means, if the European Union wants, it can close the doors of its big market of 45 crore people. Due to this, the companies of the opposite country may suffer a loss of billions of dollars.
If this step is taken, it could cause a loss of billions of dollars to American companies and the American economy.

America was frightened by the law made against China
It is about the year 2021. European country Lithuania allowed Taiwan to open a representative office in its capital Vilnius. This made China angry. He felt that Lithuania was promoting Taiwan’s international status.
China considers Taiwan as its own province and considers any such step a violation of the One China Policy. After this, China stopped trade of Lithuania and its related EU goods.
The European Union learned from this incident. He felt that any big country could put pressure on its member countries or companies in the future. The drafting of the ‘Anti-Coercion Instrument’ law started from December 2021.
So that if any country puts pressure on Europe through trade or investment, the EU can take strict economic steps against it. This law will be ready in December 2023.

If we fight together we can fight big countries.
According to the New York Times, the borders of countries and their independence are the foundation of Europe’s thinking. This understanding was formed after the Second World War, when millions of people died due to the insistence of big powers to grab land. From that experience, Europe learned that the best way to protect small countries from big powers was to work together to protect each other’s borders.
Today Europe is again facing the increasing stubbornness of the big powers. Russia is trying to occupy Ukraine, whereas earlier it itself had accepted the independence of Ukraine. On the other hand, America is talking to Denmark about giving Greenland under its control, whereas Denmark is a trusted partner of Europe and NATO.
The most important thing for Europe is to protect its borders and its freedom. There can be no compromise on this. Both the European Union and NATO have made this clear.
Even if international law, UN rules or old agreements seem to be weakening in today’s world, it is important for Europe to stick to these rules. This is his thinking and this is also his path.

Due to global warming, Arctic ice is melting rapidly. Because of this many avenues for the future are opening up. Experts believe that America wants to occupy Greenland for this reason.
Europe no longer has the same confidence in America
According to CNN, EU leaders may have got some relief after a week of diplomatic turmoil, but no one thinks that the situation will go back to the old way. The White House has not yet provided details of any agreement with Denmark regarding Greenland.
America’s military and economic power is still important for Europe. Europe itself is not yet ready for a long war alone with Russia. Trump is known for targeting his opponents, so many countries do not want a direct confrontation with him.
However, the thinking is now getting stronger within the EU that instead of being dependent on the will of America, it will have to make itself more independent and strong, especially in the matter of defense. Some countries recognized that the policy of appeasing Trump would no longer work.
The leaders of Europe began to feel that the world was becoming a more rigid and lawless place, where only the powerful ruled and the old trust between America and Europe had broken down.
Trump had made it clear in 2019 itself that he was interested in the Danish territory Greenland. But in the last one week, Europe was shocked by the way he threatened a NATO ally country.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned that Europe cannot be weak, neither before enemies nor before allies. He used a word like ‘Appreciation’, which is considered very painful in the history of Europe.
Due to fear of big powers, Europe understood the importance of sovereignty.
Mark Leonard, director of the European Council on Foreign Relations, said that under pressure from big powers like China, Russia and the US, Europe is again understanding the importance of sovereignty. He said that the world order is changing and Europe is now trying to save its rules and principles.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney had said in Davos that the old international order has ended. Now big countries are using trade, tariffs and supply chains as weapons and in such a situation small and medium countries will have to protect themselves.
Europe rejected Trump’s demand that Ukraine hand over its land to Russia. European countries clearly said that even if Russia continues to occupy some areas, it will never be recognized.
European countries have given more economic and military help to Ukraine than America. After Trump stopped the funds, Europe took the responsibility of helping Ukraine and recently approved new aid of 90 billion euros.

Belgium said – living as a slave is not acceptable
Belgian Prime Minister Bart de Wever said that many red lines are being crossed and living as slaves is not acceptable. European officials say that the policy of appeasing Trump has failed and now it is important to stand firmly for our core principles.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that strictness, dialogue, preparation and solidarity have worked in dealing with America and the same approach will be adopted in future also.
Experts have warned that Russia, China and America are trying to change the international system and want to divide Europe. In such a situation, EU and NATO face a big challenge to save their unity and existence.
