Imagine that you sit in a plane and travel in the sky continuously for a whole day i.e. about 20 to 22 hours without stopping anywhere. This journey of crossing seven to nine time zones simultaneously is enough to tire the body and mind of any person. But now with the help of science, a big experiment is going to be done to make this tiring journey comfortable and healthy.

Australian airline ‘Qantas Airways’ has introduced a specially built Airbus A350-1000ULR aircraft for the world’s longest non-stop flight (Sydney to London) in the ‘Sunrise’ project. The flights will start next year. It is claimed that to protect passengers from jetlag (fatigue and insomnia), the plane has artificial sunrise-sunset, special food and drinks and a ‘wellness zone’ for walking.

Animated light will keep the biological clock in order

Keeping the human biological clock balanced during such a long journey is the biggest challenge for scientists. Peter Cistulli, professor of sleep science at the University of Sydney, who was involved in the scientific research of the project, says, ‘Crossing nine time zones simultaneously is a major biological crisis. To overcome this we have worked on every small detail inside the aircraft. Feeding heavy meals immediately after takeoff will be avoided and a ‘protective sleep window’ will be set according to the body’s natural biological clock. The special animated lighting of the aircraft will play a big role in this.

Aircraft cabin designer David Conn said, ‘The aircraft has programmed 14 different light ‘scenarios’ inspired by the natural scenes of Australia, which will give the feeling of morning or evening.

Also a special zone that feels like a swimming pool

The plane will have diffused, twinkling lights that will give passengers the feeling of lying on the edge of a swimming pool, where they can stand up and stretch and relax. Due to weight restrictions, only 238 passengers will travel on this large aircraft, which will provide an additional 33 to 34 inches of legroom even in the typical economy class.
