Some students were injured due to clashes during Diwali celebration program at Jamia University campus in Delhi.
A clash broke out between two groups during the Diwali program at Delhi’s Jamia Millia Islamia University on Tuesday. Eyewitnesses said that during the clash some students also raised slogans in support of Palestine. He made indecent comments on the female student. The injured students were taken to the hospital late at night.
DCP Ravi Kumar Singh said that the university colleges are being closed for Diwali holidays. Therefore, the celebration was held around 6:30 pm on Tuesday evening. During this, a group of students started shouting slogans and creating ruckus. In response to this, other groups also raised slogans.
After this the matter reached the level of fighting. As soon as we got information about the clash, we reached the spot and after convincing the students, the situation was brought under control. In view of the tense situation, heavy police force is deployed in the university even on Wednesday morning.
It was claimed on social media that religious slogans were raised in Jamia University campus.
Eyewitness said- People from outside commented about the dress of female students An eyewitness student claimed that some people from outside made indecent comments against female students. They kicked and broke the lamps and then spoiled the rangoli. After this they loaded the cart and started breaking the lamps. Comments were also made regarding the dress of the female student.
Student’s allegation- Administration had maintained silence
The aggrieved students alleged on Wednesday morning that when the uproar started, several officials along with the Chief Proctor of the university were present, but they did not stop the students. Even when students were injured, the university maintained silence.
Police remained deployed outside Jamia Millia Islamia University this morning.
