Iran-US War News LIVE Updates: US President Donald Trump has again claimed that the US has “total control” over the Strait of Hormuz, even as shipping through the vital waterway remains at a fraction of pre-war levels.
Trump said on Truth Social that the US would “keep” control of the strait, calling the naval blockade a “WALL OF STEEL”.
Hormuz traffic plunges
Only eight ships crossed the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, according to Reuterscompared with around 130-140 vessels a day before the war. Traffic was also below the recent average of about 12 ships a day.
The disruption has raised growing concerns over global energy supplies. The International Energy Agency warned on Wednesday that global oil supply could fall by 4.3 million barrels per day this year, or around 4%, amid the shutdown of Hormuz, the US blockade of Iranian oil exports and attacks affecting other key routes.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy corridors, carrying a major share of global oil and gas shipments.
