2 earthquakes in the country, 4 in Pakistan in the last 24 hours
- A mild earthquake of 3.2 magnitude occurred in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh at 11:38 am on Saturday. Its center was at a depth of only 5 kilometers from the ground. Its center was about 22km north-northwest of Dharamshala.
- According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), four earthquakes were felt in Pakistan in the last 24 hours, the strongest of which was of 5.5 magnitude.
- The strongest earthquake occurred at 8:36 am on Saturday. Its intensity was measured at 5.5, which came at a depth of 40 kilometers from the ground.
- The center was in Balochistan area of Pakistan. There is news of 5 people being injured in the accident. EMSC has confirmed all four earthquakes.
Loss if earthquake intensity is more than 6.5
Strong tremors are felt where the epicenter of the earthquake is. As the distance from the center increases, tremors are not felt as strong.
Generally, if the intensity of an earthquake is 6.5 or more, the possibility of loss of life and property increases. An earthquake of intensity 6 or less has less impact on people and normal life.

Why do earthquakes occur frequently in Afghanistan?
According to the international organization Red Cross, Afghanistan is one of the most earthquake affected countries in the world. The biggest reason for this is that the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates collide here. Due to this collision, there is continuous pressure inside the ground, which comes out from time to time in the form of earthquakes.
Apart from this, the Hindukush mountain region of Afghanistan is situated on many active fault lines. Therefore, strong and deep earthquakes often occur here, whose tremors are felt in India, Pakistan and many countries of Central Asia.
