Intelligence agencies have issued a high alert regarding possible terrorist threat in Delhi and Uttarakhand. According to PTI report, after an email received by security agencies, security at religious places, government offices, railway stations and police establishments has been tightened in both the states. According to intelligence sources, the email has warned of possible attacks in the coming days, after which extensive security arrangements have been made as a precaution.
According to sources, this alert has been issued at a time when recently there was a standoff for several days between Nihang Sikhs and the administration at Nagarasu Gurudwara in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. Nihang Sikhs were demanding the release of four of their comrades arrested in connection with the clash with local people in Karnaprayag market on June 16. The three-day long deadlock ended on June 23 after the mediation of the Sikh delegation.
What is the whole matter?
After this, on the night of 25th June, a group of Nihang Sikhs forcibly entered Uttarakhand through Kulhal border of Dehradun district adjoining Himachal Pradesh. Their objective was also to demand the release of the arrested comrades. However, the administrative officials explained and sent him back to Paonta Sahib. Meanwhile, on Saturday, the District and Sessions Court of Uttarakhand granted bail to the four arrested Nihang Sikhs.
Many major temples of Uttarakhand are on target
According to intelligence sources, many major temples, government offices, railway stations and police establishments in Delhi and Uttarakhand have been mentioned as possible targets in the suspicious email. Mention of some political leaders has also come to light in the email, which has further increased the concern of the security agencies.
After the alert was issued, Delhi Police, Uttarakhand Police and Central Intelligence agencies have started reviewing the security arrangements of sensitive and crowded places. Additional police forces have been deployed at major religious places, transport hubs and government buildings. Local police units have been instructed to remain alert, continuously increase patrolling and keep a close watch on suspicious activities.
Delhi Police has also started investigating the threatening email. Cyber experts are examining the digital trail of the email to find out whether the threat is genuine or a prank by someone. At present, no concrete information has been revealed regarding the time or place of any possible attack, but security agencies are not ruling out any possibility and are continuously monitoring the entire incident.
