In Thailand on Wednesday, a crane fell on a passenger train, causing the train to derail and cause an accident.
A major train accident occurred in Thailand on Wednesday. There is news of death of 22 people in the accident. However, the death toll has not yet been officially confirmed.
The accident happened about 9:05 a.m. Wednesday in Nakhon Ratchasima province, about 230 kilometers (143 miles) northeast of Bangkok.
Officials said the crane being used in the construction of a railway bridge fell on a speeding passenger train and the driver did not get a chance to apply the brakes. After the collision, the debris of the crane fell on the train, due to which the train derailed. The coaches caught fire as soon as they derailed.
According to officials, most of the passengers in the coach were school students. 40 passengers have been injured in the accident, the condition of many of them is said to be critical. Many passengers were trapped in the coaches, who are being taken out with the help of cutting and spreading equipment.

So far 12 bodies have been recovered. The administration and railway officials are investigating why the crane fell and whether safety rules were followed or not.
