The bodies of a five-year-old boy and his uncle were recovered from the Bargi Dam reservoir in Jabalpur on Sunday, raising the death toll in the cruise boat tragedy to 13.

The tragedy occurred when a cruise boat capsized in the reservoir at Bargi Dam, leading to multiple casualties and triggering a large-scale rescue effort. On Friday, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav visited the site of the wreckage to review the ongoing operations and meet the victims.

Speaking at the incident site, Yadav said that rescue teams were still at work and vowed strict action against those found responsible for the incident. “9 bodies have been retrieved in the incident, and 28 people have been rescued. The rescue operation is still going on. A huge loss was averted due to the proactiveness of our jawans, administration and workers. We will not spare those who are found guilty in the incident,” he was quoted as saying by ANI.

The Chief Minister praised the efforts of the teams involved in the operation, including the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), as well as local officials and volunteers. He announced a reward of Rs 51,000 for the workers engaged in the rescue efforts.

“As soon as the administration received the information, SDRF, NDRF and our ministers and MLAs immediately went to the spot… All of them are continuously working for the rescue operation… I met the victims of the incident. I also announced Rs 51,000 for the workers who engaged in the rescue operations, and we will also honour the locals who worked in tandem with the administration,” Yadav said.

He further added that a high-level committee will investigate the incident to determine the causes of the capsize and fix responsibility. Meanwhile, rescue teams continue to search the reservoir as authorities work to account for all those on board the ill-fated cruise.
