Afghanistan’s Taliban regime has made its first diplomatic appointment to India. The Taliban has appointed an Afghan student as the acting ambassador to the Consulate in Mumbai. Taliban Deputy Foreign Minister Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai gave this information by posting on X on Tuesday.
Mohammad Abbas posted that Hafiz Ikramuddin Kamil has been appointed ambassador to the Consulate of Afghanistan in Mumbai. However, according to the report of NDTV, India has not yet approved this decision of Taliban.
According to sources in the Ministry of External Affairs, Kamil is an Afghan citizen who is working for the Afghan people in India. At present, he should not be linked to any appointment.
Kamil has been studying in India for seven years
Ikramuddin Kamil has been studying in India for the last 7 years. He has done PHD in International Law from South Asia University, Delhi. For this, Kamil was given a scholarship by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs. According to NDTV report, Kamil is already in Mumbai and is doing his work.
Last week, on November 6, JP Singh, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs, met Mullah Mohammad Yacob, the acting Defense Minister of Taliban in Afghanistan. Only six days later, the information about Kamil’s appointment as ambassador came to light.
Afghan embassy is closed since last year
India had recalled its diplomats after the return of Taliban to power in Afghanistan in 2021. However, even after this, the Afghan embassy and ambassadors present in India were working.
But in September last year, the Embassy of Afghanistan had stopped working in India. Afghanistan’s ambassador in charge in India, Farid Mamundzai, had written a letter to the Taliban telling them that they had failed to complete their work. This is because they were not given any support or diplomatic help from the Taliban government.
After this all the diplomats left India and went to Europe and America.
