Ananthan Ayyasamy was the candidate from BJP.

BJP candidate Ananthan Ayyasamy had to face defeat on Vasudevanallur seat in Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. He was defeated by DMK’s E. Raja by about 6500 votes. This seat was reserved for SC candidates.

Ananthan worked in America before joining politics. He also left his successful technology career and real estate business to enter politics. He says that the dream of public service brought him back to India 4 years ago.

On losing the election, Ayyasamy said – One week’s election money defeated four years of true service. He claimed that in the last four years he had spent crores of rupees and all his time for development works in the villages. His dream was to provide employment to about 1 lakh youth.

Four years ago, I told my 12-year-old daughter in the US that I was leaving my successful technology career and real estate business and returning to India because I wanted to work in public service and politics. In the last four years, we built bus stops in villages, renovated ponds, helped students in their studies, organized medical camps and career workshops. This included not just money, but also precious family moments and the pain of watching her daughter grow up from a distance. Then came the elections. The same village elected a candidate who was hardly seen there during 5 years. After all, one week’s election money defeated four years of true service. Yesterday my daughter asked on video call – ‘Appa… can you now tell me what politics really is?’ For the first time in my life, I had no answer to her question.

Worked in Intel, was Tenkasi District BJP President

Hailing from Tenkasi district in Tamil Nadu, Ayyasamy was earlier an engineer at Intel. Later he joined BJP and was made Tenkasi District BJP President. People supported Ayyasamy on social media after his defeat in the assembly elections.

One user wrote- ‘Keep working selflessly. Your day will definitely come. Don’t give up.’ One wrote – Politics is a bitter truth, you cannot win despite doing everything right.

2 year old TVK defeats 50+ year old DMK-AIADMK in Tamil Nadu

Actor Vijay’s 2 year old party TVK has won 108 seats. These are more than the total seats of DMK (59) and AIDMK (47). Vijay’s party TVK won seats in every area. The most dominance was in the north and coastal areas. It also got a lot of seats in Central Tamil Nadu. DMK won most of the seats in the southern areas. AIADMK got most of the seats in the north-central region.

TVK achieved the highest strike rate with 46%, winning 108 seats out of 234. DMK won 59 seats out of 164, registering a strike rate of 36% and AIADMK won 47 seats out of 170, registering a strike rate of 27.6%. Congress stood at 17.8% by winning 5 seats out of 28. BJP’s performance was the weakest. Contesting on 27 seats, the party could win only 1 seat and its strike rate was only 3.4%.
