In America, cases of hate crimes against Indians have increased during the second term of President Donald Trump. Online hatred and violence against people of South Asian origin remained limited during Biden’s tenure. By October 2024, 46,000 trolling and 884 threats were recorded. But the situation worsened as soon as Trump returned. By October 2025, trolling increased to 88,000, which means an increase of 91%.
After the Trump-Musk-Ramaswamy debate over visa and migrant issues in December, 76% of the threats were related to ‘taking away jobs’. The Trump government’s decision to increase H-1B visa fees and deport 104 Indians incited the atmosphere. This led to a surge in shootings and temple attacks in Texas, Virginia and California. According to the think tank ‘Center for the Study of Organized Hate’, racist posts have also increased in the last few months.
Claim in the report- Racist posts and online trolling on Indians also increased due to Trump’s policies
Slogans like ‘drive out Indians from the country’ increased
According to the report, this trend of increasing racism is not limited to Indians only, but is targeting the entire South Asian community. There is no distinction being made on the basis of religion, citizenship or caste identity. Four main reasons for this have been given in the report.
resentment against immigrants According to the report, the global resentment that has increased against immigrants in America, Europe and Australia is the first major reason for this racist trend. This sentiment has become an important part of the right-wing politics emerging around the world.
Americans are angry over H-1B Anger over H-1B visas in America is also increasing this trend. Right-wing groups allege that Indians, despite being ‘less qualified’, are snatching jobs from American citizens. This led to an increase in slogans on social media like ‘drive out Indians from the country’.
White supremacy at its peak
Racism against Indians is part of broader discrimination against Asian communities. White supremacist activities reach their peak after Trump’s victory. Whereas, during the election period, an increase of about 80% is seen in hate crimes.
Impact of tension on trade deal The tension between India and America over the trade deal has given rise to hatred. Cases like the death of three people in an accident caused by a Sikh truck driver in Florida are being exaggerated by some people to spread hatred against them.
{Posts related to anti-Indian racism showed a rise after the 2024 presidential elections. The first reason was the opposition to the appointment of Sriram Krishnan as an important advisor in the Trump administration. Secondly, there was a post by Vivek Ramaswamy. He had talked about more visas for migrant workers.
Increasing crime- People of Indian community targeted in many cities
Between November 2024 and October 2025, a series of violent incidents targeting the Indian community came to light in American cities. In February 2025, an Indian-American businessman was shot dead in Virginia. In March 2025, a father and daughter lost their lives in an attack on a grocery store.
In September 2025, two students and workers were murdered in Dallas, Texas. In the same month, the murder of Chandramouli Nagamallaiah by beheading shocked the whole world. In October 2025, the Indian-origin owner and employees were targeted in a shooting at a motel in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Additionally, attacks on temples and organized online hate campaigns continued throughout the year in California. At the same time, cases of hate crimes against students were reported in the states of Ohio, Illinois and Indiana.
