US President Donald Trump has suggested renaming the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean as ‘Trump Ocean’ or ‘Ocean of the Americas’. Trump said during an election rally on Saturday that before leaving the presidency he wants to rename an ocean and a large river. On hearing this, the people present in the rally started laughing and clapping. However, he did not present any formal proposal to rename the ocean. Even before this, Trump had suggested naming many places after himself. Trump has already changed the names of many places. Trump has already been in the news for changing or suggesting changes in the names of many places in America. Last year he changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico to ‘Gulf of America’. After this decision, diplomatic tension with Mexico increased. There was also a dispute between the Trump administration and the American news agency Associated Press (AP) regarding this name. The AP had declined to use the Gulf’s new name everywhere. After this, a legal battle started between the administration and AP regarding the agency’s access to the President’s programs. In August this year, Trump had changed the name of Lake Ontario, located between the US state of New York and Canada, to ‘Lake America’. According to ‘The Washington Post’, this decision came amid ongoing tensions with Canadian leaders over trade and tariffs. Trump had also suggested changing the name of the US state of New Mexico to ‘New America’. He had put forward this idea last month. However, he later said that the people of the state will have to decide in this regard. According to ‘The Washington Post’, while giving a video message in support of a Republican Party candidate in New Mexico, Trump said, “I will not emphasize it, but a lot of people like this name very much.”
