President Trump talking to Republican members of the US lower house.
America’s elected President Donald Trump has expressed his desire to become President for the third time. According to Reuters report, he made this statement in a hotel in Washington DC before meeting President Joe Biden on Wednesday. Supporters expressed happiness over his statement.
Trump told members of the lower house of the US Parliament, “I think I will not run for president again. But if you want, I can think of it.”
There is a provision to become President twice in America. If Trump tries to become President for the third time, he will have to amend the Constitution for this.
For this, Trump will need support from the US Parliament and states.
73 years ago the rule of becoming President twice was made
Earlier in America there was no provision for a person to become President only twice. 22 amendments were made in the Constitution in 1951. Under this, a rule was made that in America a person can become President only twice.
In fact, America’s first President George Washington took retirement after two terms. Since then, it became an informal rule for the President not to serve more than two terms. After this it became a tradition in America.
None of the 31 American presidents broke this practice. But this rule was broken during the era of Franklin D Roosevelt. He was elected President four times from 1933 to 1945.

After this, the Republican Party returned in the 1946 presidential election. In 1947, the Hoover Commission was formed for administrative changes in the central government. Following the recommendation of this commission, a law was made through the 22nd Amendment that the President cannot be elected for more than two terms.

Can Trump change the Constitution?
If Trump wants to run for the post of US President for the third time, then he will have to make changes in the US Constitution, which is not so easy. For this, Trump will have to pass a bill with a two-thirds majority in both the US Senate and House of Representatives. Trump’s Republican Party does not have that many members in both the houses.
Trump’s Republican Party has 52 out of 100 senators in the Senate. There are 220 out of 435 members in the House of Representatives. This is much less than the two-thirds or 67% majority required for constitutional amendment.
Even if Trump achieves this majority, it will not be so easy for him to amend the Constitution. After the bill is passed by both houses of the US Congress, approval has to be taken from the states for this amendment.
For this, the Constitution can be amended only after the majority of three-fourth states. That means the rules can be changed only if 38 out of 50 American states agree to change the Constitution.
However, the Republican Party has rejected Donald Trump’s statement about becoming President for the third time. Party leader Tim Burchett called Trump’s statement a joke. He said that Trump does not want this at all.
Claim- Melania Trump will not stay in the White House
Donald Trump will take oath as President of America on January 20. After that he will come and stay in the White House for work. But his wife Melania Trump is less likely to stay in the White House as First Lady.
According to a CNN report, she will spend most of her time in New York. Where she will live with her son. Apart from this, in the last 4 years she has made new friends in Florida, so it is likely that she will spend some time in Florida also.
However, as First Lady, Melania will be involved in important work. She will also be seen in main events. But she can maintain distance from the White House most of the time for the next 4 years.
