US President Donald Trump has expressed the possibility of taking military action against Iran again. “We can do another small operation, Epic Fury,” Trump said during a rally in Florida on Friday.

The US Army named the war that started against Iran on February 28 as ‘Epic Fury’. However, Trump did not say when or what type of military action would be taken again.

At the same time, Iran has warned that if America and Israel attack again, it will target the internet cables laid under the sea in the Gulf countries. This may affect internet services, banking and online business.

Trump said during an election rally on Friday that if Iran does not make a deal, another Operation Epic Fury could happen.

We can end this war very quickly. The question is whether we want to eliminate it completely or allow it to gradually weaken.

Trump also said that the movement of oil through the Strait of Hormuz is continuing. This sea route is very important for the supply of oil in the world. “We are getting everything we want,” he said.

Trump had said- We will not attack before midterm elections

Trump has already given different statements regarding the deadline to end the war. In early October he said that the US would not attack Iran before the midterm elections on November 3.

These elections will decide which party will have control in both houses of the US Parliament. The New York Times reported on Wednesday that American and Israeli forces have made plans to attack Iran again after the midterm elections.

Quoting US officials, the report said that possible targets include Iran’s energy bases, nuclear centers and stockpiles of missiles and drones.

France and Turkey warned against new attacks

Amid fears of another military action against Iran, foreign ministers of several countries warned on Friday that this could spread the war to the entire region and increase economic losses.

  • turkiye U.S. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said the new attack on Iran would increase tensions and could spread the war to other countries. He said that the only way to end the conflict is through dialogue and diplomacy.
  • France U.S. Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barro also appealed to avoid actions that could escalate tensions. He said that increasing conflict between America and Iran will not benefit anyone and can have a serious impact on oil and gas prices.
  • Germany Germany’s Foreign Minister Johann Wadful said that Germany, France and Britain are ready to negotiate with Iran so that it does not acquire nuclear weapons.
Representatives of Britain, France, Germany, Turkey, Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Italy participated in the meeting of foreign ministers in Istanbul, Turkey on Friday.

Iran plans to cut the cable

Two senior Iranian security officials told Reuters that the US and Israel planned to target undersea communications cables in the event of a new attack. However, he did not specify where and how the cable would be attacked.

According to an official, Iran may cut the cables and also hinder their repair. Due to this, Internet and other communication services may be affected for a long time.

Yadollah Javani, deputy head of political affairs of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), said on Wednesday that if Iran’s infrastructure was attacked, it could target seven major internet cables passing under the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian official Mohsen Razai has also warned of attacks on US-linked data centers and Artificial Intelligence (AI) facilities in the Gulf region.

What will happen if internet cable is cut?

  • According to the United Nations agency ITU, about 99% of the world’s Internet traffic passes through cables laid under the sea. These cables connect different countries and continents.
  • However, according to Alan Mauldin, research director of TeleGeography, less than 1% of the world’s international Internet capacity passes through Hormuz. Therefore, cable cut here will not have a direct impact on the internet across the world.
  • But the internet can become slow if several cables are cut simultaneously. Banking, online shopping and cloud services may also be affected. The impact will depend on how quickly companies are able to send data through other routes.
  • Cable repair may also be delayed during war. Internet services may remain affected for a long time due to expensive insurance and time taken to get necessary approvals.
