Trump said- historic days for the whole world
Trump said on his Truth social platform-
Both these countries have been in war for a long time, in which thousands of people lost their lives. Many leaders tried to end this war, but have not been successful till now. My administration has talked with both sides for a long time.
Trump described it as a historic day for Armenia, Azerbaijan, America and the whole world. He said that bilateral agreements would also be made to increase economic opportunities with the two countries.
Trump said that this summit would help to fully open the possibilities of the South Caucasus region.
1988–1994: Controversy over mosques-churches between the two countries increased
In the 1920s, the Soviet Union captured Armenia and Azerbaijan. The rule of the Soviet Union weakened during the 1980s.
After this, in 1988, the Parliament of Nagorno-Karabakh decided to go with Armenia. This increased the anger among the Azerbaijani people living in the area. Violent clashes between the two communities intensified in 1991.
Armenians are Christians, while Azerbaijani is a Muslim of Turkic origin. These religious and cultural differences increased the confidence and conflict between the two communities. The two sides accused each other of damaging cultural heritage and damage to mosques.

Many times peace conversation failed
There were several talks for peace between the two countries, but no major agreement could be reached so far. Azerbaijan had demanded Armenia to change its constitution before the peace agreement, including the removal of regional claims on Karabakh.
The two leaders met in Abu Dhabi in July and Albania in May, but no concrete results came out. French President Emmanuel Macron and European Council President Antonio Costa also appealed to both countries to sign the peace agreement soon.
