Conversation with movie director Saroj Mishra…

Question: Where did you get the inspiration to make ‘The Diary of Manipur’?

answer: I was already working on ‘The Diary of Manipur’. During the same time Mahakumbh was organized in Prayagraj. There I came to know about Monalisa and heard the story of her troubles. The crowd was so huge that people were busy taking selfies and making videos. Because of this all his business stopped. Employment was also lost and many rumors and fears were also created. Even such things started happening that someone would take him away.

Question: How did you decide to cast Monalisa in the film?

answer: That night I thought that when people can bring Sunny Leone, who is a porn star, from outside and make her a heroin here, then I felt that this girl should be taken forward. If Monalisa is given a chance, then a strong message will be sent to the society, the poor class and the common people that no matter what the circumstances are, a person can become anything.

Question: What responsibility did you take for Monalisa?

answer: I had also said at that time that the entire responsibility would be mine, from his education to learning acting and stabilizing the family. After this he is completely free to fulfill his dreams and move forward in the world. My only aim was to spread this message to the society that even a common man can become special.

Question: How was Dehradun selected for the shooting of the film?

answer: I have an old association with Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. Earlier when there used to be Uttar Pradesh, then and even today. Till now I have shot about six films here. I found Dehradun very friendly. The government, administration and people here are all very cooperative.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami ji himself has launched the poster of our film. In such a situation, I thought that if I shoot anywhere after Manipur, it will be Uttarakhand.

Question: What will be your next project after this film?

answer: After this I have another film coming. My next project is based on the discussion going on these days regarding Kuldeep Singh Sengar. It will be revealed very soon. The story of Monalisa and ‘The Diary of Manipur’ is emerging as not just a film, but an inspiring story of a common man becoming special.
