The central government on Friday recorded 27 places of Arunachal Pradesh and their geographical features on the official map. This step has been taken amid efforts by China to change the names of places in the state. According to the Home Ministry, this work has been done after consulting the Arunachal Pradesh government. Its objective is to reveal the correct identity of these places and increase awareness among the common people. Why did the government do this? The purpose of including these names in the official maps is to improve administration. This will bring uniformity in government records, better coordination between different departments and make it easier to provide help during disasters. However, it is not yet clear whether any changes will be made in people’s passports or other personal documents on the basis of these names. The main objective of the government is to decide the official identity of these areas and include them in the administrative records of India.
