Greenland’s PM Jens-Fredrik Nielsen and Denmark’s PM Mette Frederiksen held a joint press conference in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, on January 13.
Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Fredrik Nielsen has said that if Greenland had to choose between the United States and Denmark, it would choose Denmark. He made this statement at a time when US President Trump is threatening to occupy Greenland.
Nielsen said this in a press conference with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark on January 13. This statement is the first official statement after the introduction of the bill related to taking over Greenland in the US Parliament.

A bill named ‘Greenland Annexation and Statehood Act’ was introduced in the US Parliament on January 12. Its objective is to include Greenland in America and later make it an American state. If this bill is passed, Greenland could become the 51st state of America.
Greenland’s PM said – NATO should protect us
Nielsen said that Greenland, being part of the Danish Commonwealth, is a member of NATO and therefore Greenland should be defended by NATO.
Meanwhile, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said that it is not easy to face this kind of pressure from one’s closest ally.
He also said that we are getting many indications that the most difficult period is about to come for Greenland.
Denmark’s PM has warned America that if Greenland is attacked, it could lead to the end of the ‘Trans-Atlantic Defense Agreement’ (NATO).
According to BBC report, Greenland has been a part of Denmark for the last 300 years and Denmark is a member of NATO, so if America takes military action there, it would be like breaking the defense agreement between NATO and America-Europe.
Trump said – Capture of Greenland is necessary for security from Russia and China
According to BBC report, Trump had recently said that it is necessary for America to have Greenland for security from Russia and China.
Trump has indicated that he is considering the possibility of purchasing Greenland. However, he has not completely rejected the idea of military action.
The report also said that despite being among the least populated areas in the world, Greenland is extremely important due to its geographical location between North America and the Arctic.
In the event of a missile attack, Greenland can be used to set up an early warning system and keep an eye on ships passing through the area.
Trump had also claimed in his statement that Greenland is surrounded by Russian and Chinese ships from all sides. If the US doesn’t take over Greenland, Russia and China will.
At present, America has deployed more than 100 soldiers at the Pitufik base in the northwestern part of Greenland. This area has been with America since the time of World War II.
Trump will pay people of Greenland to join America
