But, this issue is not catching fire like it did during the era of Bal Thackeray.

They are also alleging that BJP is trying to separate Mumbai from Maharashtra – and Annamalai’s statement is being used as the basis for the campaign. Actually, Annamalai had used the word Bombay instead of Mumbai, and that is why the Thackeray brothers have got an opportunity.

Bal Thackeray’s history is useful for Uddhav and Raj
Bal Thackeray started his career as a cartoonist with the Free Press Journal, but left the job at the age of 34 and started his own magazine Marmik. Through his cartoons, Bal Thackeray started attacking and making fun of political hypocrisy, bureaucratic excess and power politics with his sharp satire and a touch of humor. Bal Thackeray launched such a campaign through Marmik that its circulation reached 40 thousand.
1. Bal Thackeray’s first Dussehra rally was held on 30 October 1966. Bal Thackeray’s father Keshav Sitaram Thackeray was the first to address the crowd gathered at Shivaji Park. And, called for the restoration of cultural purity of Maharashtra. The rally was addressed by several speakers, and finally Bal Thackeray took the stage. Bal Thackeray was not a good orator till then, but he had influenced the crowd with his eloquence and cartoon-like satire.
2. Bal Thackeray said, Shiv Sena is not a political party, but as per the name, it is an army inspired by Shivaji. Bal Thackeray explained that the aim of Shiv Sena is to advance the interest of Marathi people. In such a situation, political conspiracies are being hatched continuously with Marathi Manus. Bal Thackeray neither talked big nor had any political philosophy. But his appeal regarding Marathi identity had a deep impact on the people.
3. In later days, such an atmosphere was created in Shiv Sena meetings that the enthusiasm of everyone present at the spot would become high. Used to hold the chair on the stage resounding with thunderous applause and slogans. The statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji covered with flowers was kept on the stage. In the present era, Eknath Shinde also tries to show the same glimpse from the stage.
4. Shiv Sena’s programs would start with upbeat songs, and gradually it would turn into a mass chorus. An attempt was made to create such an atmosphere that it seemed as if Shivaji’s army was moving towards the battlefield.
5. All kinds of emotions could be seen in Bal Thackeray’s speech. Sometimes love and sometimes anger. Sometimes he would be roaring in anger. Talk about helplessness. Talk about rights and privileges. And they say, everything is being snatched from them in front of their eyes.
And then he would say in a loud voice, wake up, wake up before it’s too late. Within no time people would be filled with enthusiasm. Applause and slogans started echoing.
Is Bal Thackeray style politics going derail in the new era?

After Bal Thackeray, when the command came into the hands of Uddhav Thackeray, he started converting Shiv Sena from an extremist party to a moderate party. And, when Raj Thackeray did not find South Indians to protest, he started targeting the North Indian people of UP and Bihar. Uddhav Thackeray’s liberalism went so far that his Hindutva politics started being questioned, and Shiv Sena itself broke.
Now both the brothers together are exploring the old political ground, and are trying to make Marathi Manus an issue in the old way. The difficulty is that Mumbai Neither is the political environment the same as before, nor is the influence of the Thackeray brothers the same as that of Bal Thackeray.
It was not easy even for Bal Thackeray. Bal Thackeray also had to face allegations that his politics and Shiv Sena promote violence against non-Maratha people. In the case of people of Purvanchal, similar allegations have been leveled against Raj Thackeray also. But now they are not getting any benefit from such politics.
Then there came such occasions when even Bal Thackeray had to clarify that the allegations being leveled against him were false. Bal Thackeray would then have to explain to the people that South Indians were behind the attacks, and they wanted to defame Shiv Sena. Because he talks about the rights of the local Marathi people. Bal Thackeray, who always focused on Marathi language, then had to issue a statement in English.
The situation at that time was such that Marathi youth were not able to get a chance, let alone get a job, even an interview. Because according to Bal Thackeray, outsiders, along with holding big positions in the government and private companies, had also taken over jobs like clerks.
Bal Thackeray saw a big opportunity and founded Shiv Sena on June 19, 1966. Bal Thackeray got big public support for the first time in the rally held in Shivaji Park on the occasion of Dussehra. Now that Shiv Sena has split into two, both sides hold Dussehra rallies, and launch vigorous attacks against each other along with political opponents.
