Telangana High Court did not stay the arrest of Bandi Bagirath, son of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar, in the POCSO case. Now the order on his interim anticipatory bail petition will come in the next vacation court.
Justice T Madhavi Devi heard the petition on Friday evening. The hearing continued till almost midnight. Bagirath’s lawyer sought a stay on the arrest until the order came, but the court refused.
On May 8, a case was registered against Bagirath on the complaint of the 17-year-old girl’s mother. According to the complaint, Bagirath sexually harassed the girl. Sections of POCSO Act were added after the victim’s statement.
What did both the parties say in the court…
Aggrieved party- The family of the accused is influential, due to which there is a possibility of tampering of evidence. No relief should be given to the accused.
Defendants: The court has the power to grant interim bail till the final hearing. The complainant himself has admitted that his daughter was in a relationship with the accused since 2025. The girl’s family had put pressure on her for marriage. After taking Rs 50 thousand, he demanded Rs 5 crore and threatened to implicate him in a false case.
Before the start of the hearing, the judge said – I am pained by the propaganda campaign launched against me on social media.

Bhagirath was in contact with the minor for seven-eight months
Actually, the minor’s mother alleges that Bhagirath was in a relationship with her daughter and during this time he sexually assaulted her. According to the police, both were in contact for the last seven-eight months. However, Bhagirath has denied the allegations.
He has filed a complaint of honey trap and extortion in Karimnagar, Telangana. In a statement issued by the minister’s PRO, it was claimed that a woman tried to trap Bhagiratha through her daughter and later blackmailed him by demanding a huge amount. The statement also claimed that the woman was misrepresenting her daughter’s age.
Prisoner Sanjay had said- If the son is guilty then he should be punished.
Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar had said regarding the POCSO case registered against his son Bhagirath that if his son is found guilty then he should be punished. He said that everyone is equal before the law and he is not defending his son.

KTR demands resignation of Bandi Sanjay
BRS leader KT Rama Rao (KTR) raised questions on the action of Telangana Police regarding this matter. He said that injustice is being done to the victim and raised questions on BJP’s ‘Beti Bachao’ campaign.
KTR demanded that Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar either resign or be removed from the post. KTR alleged that there was a delay in action against the minister’s son and asked whether any special exemption was given to him under the law.
Posters have been put up at Khairatabad bus stand in Hyderabad regarding Bandi Bhagirath, son of Union Minister of State Sanjay Kumar. It has been claimed in the posters that Bhagirath, an accused in the POCSO case, is missing.
