Kartik Aryan received the Best Actor award at the 72nd National Film Awards on Tuesday for the film ‘Chandu Champion’. He shared this award with Mammootty, who received the award for ‘Brahmayugam’.
Karthik Aryan did the biggest transformation of his life for the film ‘Chandu Champion’.
‘Chandu Champion’ was based on the life of the country’s first Paralympic gold medalist Murlikant Petkar. To play the character of Muralikant in the film, Karthik had to work on his body as well as boxing skills. For this he took continuous training for about 14 months.
National level boxer and fitness coach Tridev Pandey had helped Karthik in his body transformation. While talking to Dainik Bhaskar in 2024, Tridev had told many things related to Karthik’s training.
Kartik Aryan won his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor for the film ‘Chandu Champion’ at the 70th Filmfare Awards held in 2025.
Training started with a weight of 90 kg
According to Tridev, when training for the film started, Kartik’s weight was 90 kg. The goal was to reduce his weight to between 69 to 75 kg. Along with this he had to be prepared for the mannerisms of a boxer.
Tridev had told that the aim was not just to build Karthik’s body. There were proper boxing scenes in the film, so it was necessary to dress him like a boxer. For this, special attention was given to hand-eye coordination in the training.

In boxing, it is important to keep an eye on every movement of the opponent. According to Tridev, things can change in micro seconds in this game. Therefore, Karthik was trained to keep an eye on the target and react quickly accordingly.
Had to take many punches in training
Learning boxing was not easy for Karthik. Tridev had told that Karthik had received many punches from him during training. Many times his face and stomach also got hurt.
Karthik had to endure a lot of pain during training. On many occasions he used to say to Tridev, ‘Brother, kill with ease.’ Despite this, he continued training as per the requirement of the film.
12 eggs in diet, stay away from sweets for a year
Special attention was also paid to Karthik’s diet. According to Tridev, during his 14 months of training, his diet included 12 eggs. He did not eat meat.
To reduce the amount of fat in his body, Karthik did not touch sweets for about a year. Tridev had said that people have this belief that a body cannot be built without meat, but for ‘Chandu Champion’, Karthik’s body was an example of this.
For the film ‘Chandu Champion’, Karthik Aryan had reduced his body fat from 39% to just 7%.
Got 70 thousand rupees for the first film
Kartik Aryan, who came from an ordinary family of Gwalior, struggled a long time to make his place in Bollywood. Born on 22 November 1990, Karthik came to Mumbai to study engineering, but his dream was not to become an engineer but to become an actor.
After college, he started giving auditions for films. Even the family did not know much about it. Used to search for information about auditions and then reach Belapur to Andheri by local train. Many times he used to give auditions by changing his clothes in the washroom of the station. This trend continued for about two-three years.
Luv Ranjan made his debut as a director with the film ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’. At the same time, Karthik Aryan also entered the world of acting with this film.
During this time, he got information about the audition of the film ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’ from Facebook. Karthik got rejected in the first attempt. No call came for about 6 months. Despite this he did not give up. He even asked the production house to return his photographs so that they could use them in other auditions.
After this he was called again for audition. Different rounds took place for about 6 months. In the final audition he was given a long monologue of 5 pages. He had to perform it the next day. Karthik remembers this and passes the audition.
In the year 2011, Karthik played the character of Rajat i.e. Rajjo in ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’. He got about 70 thousand rupees for this film. His long monologue in the film was much talked about. However, the journey after this was not easy.
‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety’ changed career in 2018
Films like ‘Aakashvani’ and ‘Kanchi’ did not get much success. There came a time when Karthik started feeling that he might not get any further work, but in the year 2018, ‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety’ changed his career. The film became a hit and Karthik’s recognition grew rapidly.
Kartik Aryan’s film ‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety’ (2018) had a total budget of around Rs 25 crore and grossed Rs 152–156 crore at the box office.
After this, films like ‘Luka Chuppi’ and ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh’ further strengthened her popularity. Then in the year 2022, ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ took him to the list of big commercial stars.
After this, Karthik also chose different types of characters. After ‘Satyprem Ki Katha’, he played the role of Paralympic gold medalist Murlikant Petkar in ‘Chandu Champion’.
Fees reached from 70 thousand to 20 crores
Such a moment also came in the life of Karthik, who once did a film for Rs 70 thousand, he got Rs 20 crore for only 10 days of role.
Kartik Aryan had told in AAP’s court that he had charged Rs 20 crore for just 10 days of shooting of one of his films during the Covid-19 pandemic. Although he did not name the film, but according to reports the film was ‘Dhamaka’ (2021).
Anant Nag: Failed in 10th, now got Dadasaheb Phalke
Anant Nag received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2024. He has received this honor for his film journey spanning more than five decades. Anant Nag has worked in more than 300 films. Apart from Kannada, these also include Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi and Malayalam cinema.
But the story of reaching here was not easy. Anant Nag stayed in many schools and ashrams in his childhood. At the age of about 11, he came to Mumbai for studies.
Here it was difficult for him to study directly from Kannada to English medium. Due to difficulty in language and studies, he failed in the 10th class examination. However later he completed 10th class. Studied there till 11th class.
Ananth Nag was also awarded an honorary doctorate degree by Bengaluru North University in the year 2022.
His parents wanted him to become a doctor or engineer, but after continuous trouble in studies, Anant started looking for another path.
The wars of 1962 and 1965 had a deep impact on him and he decided to join the army. During his school days, he also joined NCC and Auxiliary Cadet Corps.
But he did not get success even in the army. Due to being underweight, the Indian Army rejected him on medical grounds. He was also not selected in the Air Force due to poor eyesight. They were worried about their future after one road after another was closed.
Did more than 50 plays in five years
Then theater came into Anant Nag’s life. Initially, acting was not his decided career, but while working on stage, he started getting his confidence back. In the next five years he worked in more than 50 plays. He acted in Kannada, Konkani, Marathi and Hindi theatre. During this time, he also got a chance to learn from artists like Satyadev Dubey, Girish Karnad and Amol Palekar.
In the year 1973, Ananth Nag debuted with the Kannada film ‘Sankalp’. In the same year, he also made his mark in Hindi cinema with Shyam Benegal’s ‘Ankur’. After this he worked in films like ‘Nishant’, ‘Manthan’ and ‘Bhumika’. ‘Malgudi Days’ on TV also took him to every home.
After this his journey continued for more than five decades. With more than 300 films, he has worked in Kannada cinema as well as in many languages. He has also received five Filmfare Awards and five Karnataka State Best Actor Awards. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2025.

And now Dadasaheb Phalke Award has been associated with the name of that boy who failed in 10th. His story tells that just because a road is closed does not mean that the journey is over.
