Police in Ontario province of Canada have busted a big international cargo theft gang and arrested 5 Punjabi youths. Peel Regional Police’s Auto Cargo Theft Unit (ACTU) recovered stolen cannabis products worth approximately $2 million (approximately Rs 16.5 crore in Indian currency) from the accused. This arrest has been made in the areas around Mississauga and Brampton. Investigation of stolen trailer revealed the whole matter started on April 15, 2026, when the special unit of the police was patrolling and investigating near McLaughlin Road and Highway 401 in Mississauga. During the investigation, officers noticed a suspicious trailer. Upon checking the records, it was found that it was the same trailer whose theft had been reported from the Niagara region some time ago. The police took immediate action and took this trailer into their custody. Shipment worth millions of dollars recovered When police searched the recovered trailer, they found a large stock of cannabis products in it. According to the information, this shipment was to be legally delivered to several licensed dispensaries (shops), but on the way it was lost along with the truck. The value of the recovered goods in the international market is estimated at more than $2 million. According to police officials, the gang had cleverly planned to dispose of the entire shipment. Identification of the arrested accused: The investigators linked the stolen goods and the trailer and identified five people and detained them. All the arrested accused are Punjabi youth of Indian origin. Their names have been given as Manveer Singh (21), Sarabjit Singh (32 years), Dilkhab Singh (21), Karan Kumar (25), Jaskevan Malhi (23). These accused lived in Brampton. Further action of the police: Police is now investigating whether these youths are related to any big international cargo theft syndicate. Cases have been registered against all of them under several serious sections including possession of stolen goods and conspiracy to smuggle. Incidents of cargo theft have increased significantly in Canada in recent years. Peel Regional Police have advised local businesses to remain vigilant and said they will have a zero-tolerance policy against these types of crimes. The accused will be presented in the court soon.
