Emergency landing has taken place in England Birmingham, an Air India flight leaving from Amritsar, Punjab. This AI117 is a Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. The landing took place when the aircraft’s RAM air turbine (RAT) became active.

The airline confirmed that all the electrical and hydraulic systems of the aircraft were functioning normally. The flight left from Amritsar on 4 October.
An Air India spokesperson said that the aircraft in Birmingham had a safe landing and all passenger and crew staff members are safe. However, the aircraft has been grounded for further investigation.
Due to this, the return flight AI114 coming from Birmingham to Delhi has been canceled. Air India said that alternative arrangements are being made for the passengers affected by this flight.

On 4 October 2025, the crew members of the flight AI117 going from Amritsar to Birmingham came to know that RAM Air Turbine (RAT) was active during the final approach. All electrical and hydraulic parameters were found to be normal, and the aircraft made safe landing. The aircraft has been grounded for further investigation, and as a result flight AI114 has been canceled. Alternative arrangements are being made for affected passengers

It is a small turbine that exits the bottom of the aircraft. It rotates with the help of wind and helps the plane in the emergency position. The electricity generated from this keeps running the necessary control systems of the plane such as radio, flight controls and hydraulic power.

This is useful for emergency power supply so that the important systems of the plane can remain on and the pilot can control the aircraft. It is only useful for control.
