A program was organized on Tuesday to mark the completion of one year of renovation of ‘Himadri Ice Rink’ located at Maharana Pratap Sports College. On this special occasion, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Sports Minister Rekha Arya launched the new jersey of Uttarakhand ice hockey team. This ice rink, which was once a victim of neglect, has now emerged as a big platform for the winter sports players of the state. During the program, the players also showcased their talent by playing a spectacular ice hockey match. The government is committed to providing better facilities to the youth. While addressing the program, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami encouraged the players. He said that the state government is fully committed to providing the best sports facilities and infrastructure to the youth. Expressing happiness, the Chief Minister said that it is the result of the development of modern sports infrastructure in the state that today the young players of Uttarakhand are establishing a new identity for themselves at the national and international level. The structure which was a victim of neglect has today become a symbol of empowerment. Sports Minister Rekha Arya, in her address, described this one year journey of the ice rink as a big success of the ‘Ice Breaking Movement’. He said, this ice rink is no longer just a structure made of bricks and stones, but it has become a strong platform to realize the dreams of the youth of the state. Recalling the past situations, he said that the ice rink which was once a victim of complete neglect, has today become the biggest symbol of the sports power and empowerment of the state. The entire credit for this goes to the hard work of the players, dedication of the trainers and sports-friendly policies of the state government. Thousands of children got a new career direction. The Sports Minister said that within the last one year, thousands of children have come to this ice rink and learned the nuances of ice sports and have decided on a new direction for their career. Today the players of the state are showing their strength in national competitions as well as at the international level, which is a matter of great pride for the entire Uttarakhand. These people were present in the program. During this grand event, Raipur Assembly Constituency MLA Umesh Sharma Kau, Special Principal Secretary (Sports) Amit Sinha, Sports Director Ashish Chauhan, Additional Director Ajay Aggarwal and Maharana Pratap Sports College Principal Rajesh Mamgain along with many officials of the Sports Department and a large number of sports lovers were present.
