Mirza Shehzad Akbar, who was a Special Assistant (SAPM) in the government of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, has once again suffered a fatal attack in Britain. This attack took place when he was present at his home in Cambridge city.
Mirza Akbar has held Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir responsible for this attack. In this incident, he suffered serious injuries on his face and his nose and jaw were fractured. At present he is undergoing treatment in the hospital and the police is investigating the matter.
Giving information about the incident, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party also said that the attack took place in the morning. According to the party, the attacker entered Akbar’s house and punched him repeatedly in the face, breaking his nose and jaw. After the incident, local police reached the spot, collected evidence and started investigation.
Mirza Akbar has been living in Britain for 3 years
Mirza Akbar has been living in Britain since leaving Pakistan in April 2022. He himself has said that he is living his life in exile willingly, because his life was in danger in Pakistan. He has been attacked before also.
In November 2023, a masked person threw acid at his house. He had a narrow escape in that attack. At that time he had written on social media that attempts were being made to scare him, but he would neither be afraid nor bow down. He had also alleged a conspiracy behind this attack.
Mirza Akbar says that these attacks are related to the Al-Qadir Trust case related to Imran Khan. He alleges that some forces and security agencies of Pakistan are pressurizing him to testify against Imran Khan in this case. He said that when he refused to do so, he started receiving threats and was then attacked.
Akbar was receiving threats for several months
Akbar also told that in the last few months he was continuously receiving threatening messages. In these messages he was told to mend his ways, otherwise there would be serious consequences. According to him, he had already informed the British police about this.
After the acid attack, in April 2024, Mirza Akbar started legal action against the Pakistan government in the British court. He had alleged that some government people of Pakistan may have a role in the acid attack in 2023. However, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry had completely rejected these allegations and termed them baseless.
Pakistani court declared him a declared criminal
Mirza Akbar’s legal problems have also increased in Pakistan. An Islamabad court has declared him a declared criminal in a case of controversial statements on social media X. After this, Pakistan Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Britain’s High Commissioner Jane Marriott and also handed over documents related to Akbar’s extradition.
Although there is no formal extradition treaty between Pakistan and the UK, an agreement exists between the two countries under which Pakistani nationals involved in crime or violating immigration rules can be deported from the UK.
At present, Mirza Shahzad Akbar is undergoing treatment and his condition is being monitored. The police is trying to find out who the attacker was and why he carried out the attack. Is it related to the earlier acid attack or some political conspiracy? This incident has once again raised questions about the safety of Pakistani political refugees living in Britain.
