The Rath Yatra in Ahmedabad covers a distance of 18 kilometres passing through various areas of the city.

The 147th annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath will be taken out in Ahmedabad, Gujarat today i.e. on Sunday. The Rath Yatra will start at around 7 am from the 400-year-old Lord Jagannath temple located in Jamalpur. After this, it will pass through various areas of the city and will end at 8 pm.

Dozens of decorated elephants, 100 trucks and people from 30 ‘Akhadas’ participate in the Rath Yatra. During this time, the chariots of Lord Jagannath, his elder brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra are pulled by the people of the Khalasi community as per the ancient tradition. A large number of devotees gather on both sides of the road to get a glimpse of the Lord.

Home Minister Amit Shah has reached the temple to participate in Mangala Aarti. Where he will take blessings of Lord Jagannath. After this, at around 6.30 pm, the Chief Minister will perform the Pahind ritual. After this, the Rath Yatra will be started by pulling the chariot of Lord Jagannath.

Modi also has a record of doing ‘Pahind Vidhi’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi holds the record of performing Pahind Vidhi for 13 consecutive years. He performed Pahind Vidhi of Jagannath Rath Yatra as Chief Minister every year from 2001 to 2013. After Narendra Modi became PM in 2014, Anandiben became the first woman Chief Minister of Gujarat. In this way, for the first time, a woman Chief Minister got the holy opportunity of performing Pahind Vidhi.

What is the ‘Pahind method’ in Rath Yatra?
During the Rath Yatra, there is a special ritual which is called Pahind Vidhi. Cleaning the path of the chariot with a special golden broom in front of all the three chariots is called Pahind Vidhi. In Pahind Vidhi, the path in front of Lord Jagannath’s chariot is swept with a golden broom. Only after this the chariot moves forward.

More than 18 thousand soldiers will be deployed

Tight security arrangements have been made for the Rath Yatra. More than 18 thousand Gujarat Police personnel will be deployed for the security of the 147th Rath Yatra. Apart from this, the police will also keep surveillance from helicopters. Lakhs of devotees are expected to attend the Yatra.

4,500 soldiers will march along with the procession
Out of the 18,784 security personnel involved in the Rath Yatra, 4,500 jawans will march along the procession while 1,950 will be deployed for traffic management. 16 ambulances will be on standby at five government hospitals to deal with any medical emergency.

Senior police officials will keep a close watch on the Rath Yatra using 1,733 ‘body-worn cameras’ connected to the control room. 20 drones and 96 surveillance cameras have been installed at 47 locations along the route of the yatra.
