America has a debt of more than 40 trillion dollars. Along with this, interest rates, tariffs and economic sanctions imposed on other countries are also increasing. Due to this, some investors of the world are now thinking where to invest their money other than America. Some big government funds are reducing investments in US bonds. Central banks of many countries are increasing their reserves by buying gold. At the same time, German companies reduced investment in America and increased investment in China in the first half of 2026. However, this does not mean that the world is turning away from America completely. The dollar is still the world’s largest reserve currency and a large amount of money is still invested in the US stock market and bonds. America has to pay more interest to take loan. The concern of investors in the American bond market is now clearly visible. The yield on 10-year US Treasury bonds reached nearly 5% in September. On September 11, it was 4.93%, whereas before that it had reached 4.979%. If understood in simple language, increase in yield means that America has to pay more interest to investors to take loans. That means it is becoming expensive for the government to take loans. This may also impact government expenditure in future. To maintain investors’ interest in bonds, the US Treasury is increasing purchases of old bonds. However, Treasury Secretary Scott Besant says the US financial system is strong and recent bond auctions have been good. Norway may reduce investment in American bonds. Norway’s government funds are also among those reducing investment from America. This fund of about $ 2.3 trillion (₹ 218.5 lakh crore) is planning to reduce its money in US government bonds. It is proposed to reduce the share of government bonds in Norway’s fund from 70% to 50%. The biggest cut in this is likely to be in American bonds. This could reduce Norway’s investment in US bonds by about $80 billion. However, Norway is not making this change just to distance itself from America. He is also considering investing money in Japanese government bonds and other types of bonds. Its objective is to invest your money in different places and find better earning opportunities. Investment of German companies in America decreased by 65%, in China increased by one-third. There is a big difference in the figures of investment of German companies in America and China this year. Their investment in America declined by 65% to 4.3 billion euros in the first half of 2026. At the same time, investment in China increased by almost one-third to 5.6 billion euros. According to a study by the German Economic Institute, investment by German companies in America has declined at a time when there is uncertainty in business regarding Trump’s tariff and trade policies. At the same time, German companies already working in China are continuously investing money in their business. The dollar’s share is gradually declining; the dollar is still the most widely used reserve currency in the world. But the world’s central banks are gradually reducing the share of dollars in their foreign exchange reserves. According to the IMF, the dollar’s share in the world’s foreign exchange reserves in the last quarter of 2025 was 56.77%. In the previous quarter it was 56.93%. At the same time, the share of China’s currency Renminbi was only 1.95%. This does not mean that China’s currency is going to replace the dollar right now. The dollar’s hold is still very strong. Just some countries are keeping their money in different places. Along with dollars, they are also increasing their reserves in other currencies and gold. Central banks are continuously buying gold. Along with dollars, gold is also becoming an important reserve for central banks. Many countries are increasing the share of gold in their foreign exchange reserves. According to the World Gold Council, the world’s central banks will buy a total of 863 tons of gold in 2025. This was lower than in 2024, but still much higher than the long-term average. Between 2022 and 2025, central banks bought an average of about 1,000 tonnes of gold every year. That is, the trend of including gold in reserves has been continuous for the last few years. Buying continues in 2026, demand for gold increases in China and India too. The increasing demand for gold is not limited to just central banks. Common investors are also investing more money in gold. Gold investment demand in China to increase by 28% in 2025. In India too, the demand for investment in gold increased by 17%. The markets of both the countries together account for more than half of the total demand for gold bars and coins in the world. That means the demand for gold is increasing from two sides. On one hand, central banks are increasing gold in their foreign exchange reserves, while on the other hand, common investors in big markets like China and India are also considering gold as an investment option. America’s economic strength is still intact. Despite these changes, America’s economic strength has not yet ended. Even today the share of dollar in the world’s foreign exchange reserves is more than 56%. Money from other countries is also invested in the American stock market and government bonds. US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant says that people’s confidence in the American financial system remains intact and the auction of government bonds is also going well.
