Tension between America and Iran has increased once again. The US military attacked 5 oil tankers belonging to Iran on Tuesday (September 8). A few hours later, Iran fired 20 ballistic missiles towards the US military base in Jordan. The Jordanian military claimed that its air defenses shot down 18 of these missiles, while two missiles fell in unpopulated areas. US Central Command (CENTCOM) said Iran had tried to target a US Navy warship with ballistic missiles twice in the past two days. In response, the US military attacked oil tankers belonging to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC). US targeted 4 tankers in the Gulf of Oman According to CENTCOM, the US targeted 4 oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman and 1 near Kharg Island. Kharg Island is Iran’s largest oil export hub. The US claimed that the five tankers that were attacked were part of a shadow network worth billions of dollars. According to CENTCOM, this network raises funds for Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and its regional allies. The US military reported that the tanker crews had been instructed to evacuate the ship before the attack. America said – the attack on the warship failed. According to CENTCOM, Iran had tried to target a warship of the US Navy with ballistic missiles. The US military said the warship successfully dodged the missile attack. According to CENTCOM, no American soldiers were harmed in this incident and the American warship is continuing its patrol in the territorial waters. The US Army says that in response to these attacks by Iran, action was taken against five oil tankers. Rubio’s warning – Iran will lose its tanker if it attacks an American ship. While talking to journalists in Colombia, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has openly warned Iran. He said that any attempt to attack American naval ships would be responded to. Such action may be seen from America in future also. Iran also threatened US ships in Kuwait and Bahrain Following the US attack, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards navy warned the crews of oil tankers with US contacts near the ports of Kuwait and Bahrain. The IRGC said the crews of these ships should immediately abandon their ships. Iran threatened that ships could be targeted whether they were in port or at anchor in the sea. Kharg Island: Kharg Island is especially important in the area which was targeted in the American action, which is very important for Iran’s oil business. It is Iran’s main crude oil export terminal. About 90% of Iran’s crude oil is exported through this island. Crude oil is transported from the mainland through pipelines to Kharg Island and from here it is sent to international markets. Because of this, any military action around Kharg Island could increase concerns about Iran’s oil exports and global oil supply. America has already targeted Iranian oil tankers. America had earlier attacked 3 Iranian oil tankers on September 5. According to the US Army, this action was taken after Iran tried to attack an American aircraft carrier and guided missile destroyer. Now the tension between the two countries has increased further after the American attack on five more tankers and in response the Iranian missile attack on the American military base in Jordan. ————————— Also read this news… Another conflict begins in the Middle East: Houthi rebels attack 4 Saudi cities, 73 injured.
