He said that a team of six members including SP and two DSPs has gone to take him. Punjab Police is bringing him from Hong Kong. There are three cases against him in Punjab. He said that this is a big achievement of Punjab Police.
Was arrested in Hong Kong in 2018
Ramanjit Singh Romi, the main accused in the Nabha jail break case, was arrested in Hong Kong in 2018. After this, Punjab had raised this matter before the central government. Also, action for his extradition was started.
But a long legal battle was fought by India to bring him back to India. The Punjab police proved the charges against him in the court there. After which this success has been achieved. Red corner notice issued against Romi
Earlier, a red corner notice was issued against gangster Romi after his disappearance. Romi is also suspected of being involved in the murders that took place in Jalandhar and Ludhiana in the year 2016-17. According to Punjab Police, he was in contact with gangster Gurpreet Singh Sheikhon. Gurpreet was among the six people who escaped from Nabha jail in November 2016 and he was the main conspirator of this case.
Police believe that Romi had provided money to those who escaped from jail. Also, he had planned the entire jail break from Hong Kong itself.
Six prisoners had escaped from Nabha jail
On 27 November 2016, six prisoners escaped from Patiala’s Nabha jail. These included two terrorists and four notorious gangsters. Khalistani Liberation Force chief Harminder Singh Mintu, who escaped in the jail break, was arrested by the police a few hours later. But another terrorist Kashmir Singh escaped. While the main accused in this case, gangster Vicky Gounder, has been killed by the police in an encounter.
