Ajit Pawar has been an MLA from Baramati for 7 consecutive times since 1991.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has said that he has contested elections 7-8 times. Now he is not interested. He has hinted at fielding his younger son Jai Pawar from the Baramati assembly seat. Ajit has been an MLA from Baramati since 1991.
Ajit Pawar was answering media questions on Thursday (August 15). During this, he was asked whether Jai would be fielded from Baramati on the demand of supporters.
On this, Ajit said, “If the supporters want this, then the (NCP) parliamentary board will discuss it. If the parliamentary board and the people feel that Jai should be fielded, then we are ready.”
After this statement, speculations increased that Ajit Pawar might not contest the assembly elections. However, State NCP Chief Sunil Tatkare said that Ajit has not said that he will not contest the assembly elections.

Ajit’s elder son lost the Lok Sabha elections
Ajit has two sons – Parth and Jai. The elder son Parth Pawar contested the Maval Lok Sabha seat in 2019. However, he lost to Shiv Sena MP Shrirang Barne by a huge margin of votes.
Parth disappeared from politics for four years after losing the election. Parth became active again after Ajit Pawar joined the BJP-Shiv Sena government in July last year. He was seen holding meetings with party workers several times.
Sharad faction is preparing to field his close aide against Ajit
Recently, NCP (Sharad faction) MLA and Sharad Pawar’s grandson Rohit Pawar had claimed that his party will field a family member from Baramati. Rohit said that someone from the family who is very close to Ajit can be fielded against him.
Ajit has been Baramati MLA for 33 years
Baramati, located in Pune district of Maharashtra, is considered the stronghold of the Pawar family. Ajit Pawar has been an MLA here for 7 consecutive times since 1991. Before him, his uncle Sharad Pawar had won continuously from here from 1967 to 1990.
Baramati is part of the Baramati Lok Sabha seat along with five other assembly constituencies of Pune, Daund, Indapur, Purandar, Bhor and Khadakvasla. Sharad Pawar’s daughter Supriya Sule is a four-time MP from Baramati since 2009. Sharad Pawar was the MP here from 1996 to 2004.
Ajit Pawar had fielded his wife Sunetra Pawar against cousin Supriya Sule in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. However, Sunetra lost the election by a margin of over 1.5 lakh votes.

Ajit said- it was a mistake to make his wife contest against his sister
Ajit Pawar said in an interview to a Marathi news channel on August 13 that it was a mistake to field his wife Sunetra Pawar against his cousin Supriya Sule. Pawar said- I love all my sisters. Ajit rebelled, became deputy CM for the fifth time
- Ajit Pawar joined the Shinde government of Maharashtra on 2 July 2023 along with 8 NCP MLAs. He claimed the support of 40 NCP MLAs with him. Ajit was made Deputy CM in the coalition government.
- Ajit had announced the removal of Sharad Pawar from the post of NCP national president on 5 July 2023. He declared himself as the new national president. Ajit said that this decision was taken in the party’s national executive meeting held on 30 June 2023 in Mumbai.
- The Election Commission had said on February 6 that the Ajit Pawar faction is the real NCP. The commission had said that the majority of the number of MLAs helped the Ajit faction to get the NCP name and election symbol (analog clock).
