Despite strict land laws in Uttarakhand, land is being sold to outsiders in Almora district. Villagers allege that in Khunt, Dhamas and Balsa villages, the ancestral villages of UP’s first Chief Minister Govind Ballabh Pant, middlemen are buying land at throwaway prices through pressure, threats and assault and then selling it to outsiders at many times higher rates. According to the villagers, land is being purchased for Rs 50 thousand to Rs 1.5 lakh per drain, whereas later the same land is being sold for Rs 10 to 15 lakh per drain. Three videos have surfaced in the case, in which allegations of possession, threats and even land registry of Gol Khata have been made. The villagers and the lawyer have warned of gheraoing the District Magistrate if action is not taken. First know what happened in the three videos that surfaced? In the first video, the villager said, “The village land will not be given to outsiders.” In the first video, a villager is seen having a heated argument with the outsiders. He says that the village land will not be given to outsiders and will not be taken by force. The villager alleges that when he protested, he was beaten up and even his leg and ribs were broken. He also claims that the village land is being registered in Gol Khata and so far about 500 nali lands have been sold. In the video, the villager appeals to the Chief Minister and the District Magistrate for intervention. It also warns that if action is not taken in time, a major incident may occur. Second video: Outsiders reach the farm, pressure to sell the land for Rs 1.5 lakh. In the second video, a person from Dhamas village is seen having a heated argument with the people standing on the roadside. In the video he is claiming that these people are outsiders and have come here to buy land in the village. In the video the person says that the village land will not be given to outsiders and will not be taken by force. In this video, a person named Mohan Singh is also mentioned, who is being accused of buying and selling land. In the third video, the lawyer argued with the officials, “Registry of the land of Gol Khata” In the third video, High Court lawyer Vinod Tiwari is seen arguing with the Naib Tehsildar and other officials. Along with this, a person is crying and telling about the assault that happened to him. In the video, the lawyer is also talking about a heated argument with the officials and action against those who assaulted the person. Advocate Vinod Negi claims that 500 to 600 drains of land have been bought and sold in Khunt, Dhamas and Balsa areas. According to him, land is being bought from villagers for Rs 50 thousand to Rs 1.5 lakh per drain and is being sold to outsiders for Rs 10 to 15 lakh per drain. He also alleged that many lands belong to Gol Khata, which have not been distributed yet, yet they have been registered. The advocate says that the roadside lands are being deliberately targeted, due to which even the roads leading down to the village are being closed. If the villagers protest, they are being beaten and threatened with death. Meeting held in the village – Naib Tehsildar-Patwari arrived. A separate meeting of villagers was held in Khunt-Dhamas village on Sunday regarding this entire matter. In the meeting, the villagers unanimously demanded strict action against the land mafia. Villagers say that pressure is being created to sell the land and those protesting are even beaten up. Naib Tehsildar and Patwari also attended the meeting. The villagers informed the authorities about the entire incident and demanded an impartial investigation and filing of a case against the culprits. Govind Ballabh Pant was born in this village… Govind Ballabh Pant was the first Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and Bharat Ratna awarded leader. He was born in Khunt village of Almora. Most of his childhood was spent in Almora and he was brought up by his aunt Dhanidevi. He studied at Allahabad University and excelled in law. Through advocacy, he gained a strong identity in Kashipur-Nainital region. He organized the national movement in Kumaon on the basis of non-violence and participated in the movements of 1921, 1930, 1932 and 1934 and remained in jail for about 7 years.
