The UN Security Council (UNSC) on Monday approved US President Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan proposal. The purpose of this proposal is to restore peace in Gaza, deploy international forces and advance the possibility of Palestine in the future.
A total of 13 countries voted in its favor, while Russia and China did not take part in the voting. No country voted in opposition. America called it a historic and positive step.
what is in the proposal
- Permission for deployment of International Stabilization Force (ISF) This force will monitor security and borders in Gaza in collaboration with Israel, Egypt and the new trained Palestinian police. Will help in surrendering weapons from extremist organizations. Will ensure the secure supply of humanitarian aid.
- Formation of an interim administration named ‘Board of Peace’ This arrangement will run till the end of 2027. In this, the possibility of Trump remaining president has been mentioned.
The resolution also states for the first time that if the Palestinian administration reforms and the reconstruction of Gaza happens rapidly, it could open the way for Palestine to become a separate country in the future. However, Israel has completely rejected this idea.
Meanwhile, Russia had put forward a separate proposal, which called for a two-state solution, but without immediate approval of an international force or a new administration. On the other hand, America also got the support of many Muslim countries like Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Indonesia, Pakistan, Jordan and Turkey.
