India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal rage-baited Sri Lanka wicketkeeper-batter Niroshan Dickwella into throwing away his wicket on Tuesday, August 19. The wicket took away Sri Lanka’s chance of putting up a strong resistance against the visiting side, who were favourites to win the match at the start of the final day.
Batting in the final innings on Day 5 of the Test match, Sri Lanka needed Niroshan Dickwella to dig deep and hold the fort for the hosts. Sri Lanka had done exceedingly well in the morning session of Day 5 to keep India at bay. Dhananjaya de Silva and Sonal Dinusha had hit their fifties, nullifying the Indian spin attack.

However, India finally broke through late in the morning session after Jadeja was able to trap Sri Lanka captain Dhananjaya de Silva at short fine leg. The wicket brought out the experienced Niroshan Dickwella, who was expected to double down on the resistance of the Sri Lankan batters.
However, as he walked out to the crease, young India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal constantly chirped at the batter from behind the wickets. He got into a heated altercation with Dickwella, asking him to hit sixes through the leg side.
Dickwella chirped back at the slip fielder and said, “Yes, I will, sir.”
In the very next over, India fast bowler Prasidh Krishna bowled a barrage of bouncers at Dickwella. The Sri Lanka batter tried to attack the pacer but ended up edging one of his short balls back to the keeper, ending his innings prematurely.
With Dickwella falling for 10, Sri Lanka exposed their tailenders to the Indian bowling attack, putting the visiting team in a firm position to win the contest and take a 1-0 lead in the series.
Earlier, India set up a huge target of 372 runs against Sri Lanka in the final innings of the match. The visitors were able to take 4 wickets in the final session of Day 4, leaving them to pick up 6 wickets in the final day of the opening Test.
