The Israeli army carried out air strikes in southern Gaza on Wednesday. This action was taken in response to a Hamas attack during the day in which five Israeli soldiers were injured.
These air strikes, which took place late on Wednesday night, were carried out at a time when both Israel and Hamas are accusing each other of ceasefire violations. The agreement, which has been in place since early October, has come under strain at times, but remains partially in place.
Earlier in the day, Israeli officials said they had found body parts of one of the last hostages in Gaza. Along with this, Israel also decided to allow some Palestinian citizens to leave the area through the Egyptian border.
Israel claims that it has recorded several incidents of Hamas breaking the ceasefire before launching the airstrike. According to local health officials, 104 people were killed in the attacks in the last week of October, while 33 people were killed in late November.
