Rakesh Kumar from Uttarakhand, who went to Russia to study on a study visa and was then forcibly recruited into the Russian Army, has died. 24 year old Rakesh was a resident of Udham Singh Nagar. The family had come to know that the son was stuck in Russia but they did nothing to save him.

Just 11 days ago, on December 7, Rakesh’s father had received a call that his son had been killed in the war, after which Rakesh’s body reached Delhi in a coffin on Monday. The body from Delhi reached Pantnagar Airport on Tuesday from where the body was brought to the native village Shakti Farm. His last rites were performed here on Wednesday.

During this time, the family and village people were saddened by his death, while father Rajbahadur Maurya said that his son had gone to Russia for studies, but he was handed a gun.

Went to Russia to study, everything changed within a few days

Rakesh Kumar was originally a resident of Kushomath village of Shakti Farm area of ​​Sitarganj tehsil. He went to Russia on August 7 on a study visa to study at St. Petersburg University. According to the family members, everything was normal in the initial days, but after some time, Rakesh’s words started making the family feel that he was in some serious trouble.

Rakesh’s elder brother Deepu Maurya told that on August 30, he had a direct conversation with Rakesh for the last time. In the same conversation Rakesh reveals that he has been forcibly recruited into the Russian Army and will soon be sent to the Ukraine war zone.

A photo that scared the whole family

After August 30, contact with Rakesh was completely lost. A few days later, the family received a photograph of Rakesh, in which he was seen wearing Russian army uniform. The family members were shocked to see this picture.

After this Rakesh called from an unknown Russian number. He told that his passport, visa and all important documents have been confiscated. His official email account has also been deleted. Rakesh also told that after being trained in Donbass area, he is being sent directly to the battlefield. After this call the family could never talk to him again.

Family ran to Delhi to save son

When the family came to know about Rakesh being forcibly admitted, they started making every possible effort to bring him back. The family reached Delhi and met Indian government officials. The authorities had assured the family that Rakesh would be brought back to India soon.

The family hoped that the son would return alive, but fate had something else in store. About 10 days ago, officials called Rakesh’s father Rajbahadur Maurya and informed him that his son had been killed in the war.

Last journey from Delhi to Shakti Farm

Rakesh Kumar’s mortal remains were first brought to Delhi and then reached Pantnagar airport on Tuesday. From there the body was brought to his ancestral village at Shakti Farm in Sitarganj.

Rakesh was cremated on Wednesday at Taraknath Dham Shakti Farm amidst a sad atmosphere. The village people, relatives and acquaintances witnessed this last farewell with heavy hearts. The family was in a bad condition, crying.

Father said- Son had gone to study, he was thrown into the war.

Rakesh’s father Rajbahadur Maurya told that his son had gone to Russia with the dream of studying. Till August 30, he kept talking to the family and kept saying that he was being forcibly given army training and would be sent to war.

He said that there was no contact with Rakesh after August 30. Now the only question to the government is how a student was thrown into a foreign war and why concrete steps were not taken in time to save him.
