Majoti Sahil Mohammad Hussain, an 22 -year -old Indian student fighting for Russia, surrendered in front of Ukraine. Majoti hails from Morbi city of Gujarat. He went to Russia to study.
Ukraine’s 63rd Mechanized Brigade released a video on Tuesday stating that Majoti was in jail for 7 years in a drug case. He received an offer to join the Russian army to escape from jail.
Majoti said in the video that he did not want to go to jail, so he signed the contract for the Russian army. He was given only 16 days of training and sent to the war for the first time on 1 October.
Three days later, after a quarrel with his commander, he surrendered to the Ukrainian army. The student told- I put up arms and said that I do not want to fight, I need help. He said all these things in Russian language.
Student said- Russia does not want to go back
Majoti said that he does not want to go back to Russia. He also told that he was promised to give money to join the army, but he did not get anything.
Ukraine has caught many foreign soldiers fighting for Russia. According to media reports, Russia admitted people from countries like India to lure jobs or studies in the army.
India had demanded Russia to stop the recruitment of Indians
The Government of India had demanded from Russia last month to stop recruiting Indians in its army. It was also said that Indian citizens who have already joined the army should also be released.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal had advised the public not to pay attention to any proposal to join Russia’s army as it is threatened.
- Stay away from the proposal joining the Russian Army: Randhir Jaiswal said that, we request our citizens to be cautious. There is an appeal to Indian citizens to stay away from any proposal to join the Russian Army.
- We have seen the report: Responding to the media question, he said that we have recently seen reports about the recruitment of Indian citizens in the Russian Army. The government has highlighted the dangers related to such cases on several occasions in the last one year.
- Demand to send citizens back: He further said- We have also raised this matter in front of Russian officials in both Delhi and Moscow places. We have appealed that this practice be abolished. Our citizens should be sent back.
Ministry of External Affairs had told- 12 Indians died in Ukraine war
12 Indians fighting for Russia have died in Ukraine. The Ministry of External Affairs gave this information in January. So far, there have been cases of 126 Indian citizens joining the Russian Army.
Out of these 96 people returned to India. There are still reports of 18 Indian citizens being trapped in Russia, out of which no information of 16 has been found.
