Iranian Parliament Speaker Ghalibaf (left) and Foreign Minister Araghchi (right) have been involved on behalf of Iran in the talks with the US.
During US-Iran talks that began in April, America feared that Israel might target Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf. For this reason, America, through some allied countries of the Middle East, sent a message to Tehran to be cautious.
According to the New York Times report, America feared that if both negotiators were killed then the ceasefire and peace process would break down. At that time the Trump administration was trying to open the Strait of Hormuz and reach an agreement on Iran’s nuclear program.
According to the report, Iran was under threat of attack even before a meeting to be held in Pakistan. For this reason, Pakistan transported the plane of the Iranian delegation to Islamabad under the protection of fighter jets. Even while returning, after receiving a security alert, the plane made an emergency landing in Mashhad and the delegation reached Tehran by road.
