Russian President Vladimir Putin may visit India in the last week of this year. According to Russian news agency Tas, this information was given by India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
Doval said in a meeting with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu – “Now we have a very good relationship that we appreciate. There is a strong partnership between our countries and we talk at high levels.”
India’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval arrived in Russia on Wednesday. He may meet with President Putin. This is Doval’s first Moscow visit to Operation Sindoor.
The visit is considered to be very important due to the comments made by US President Donald Trump on India’s relations with Russia.
In 2021, Putin came to India for just a few hours, meeting PM Modi in New Delhi.
Putin came to India in 2021 for the last time President Putin visited India on 06 December 2021. Then he came to India for only 4 hours. During this time, 28 agreements were signed between India and Russia. It included military and technical agreements. The two countries had targeted the annual trade annually by 2025 $ 30 billion (2 lakh 53 thousand crore rupees).
This will be Putin’s first visit to India after the Ukraine War started in February 2022. This visit is expected to pursue the new economic roadmap for 2030 between the two countries.
India and Russia have agreed to double their bilateral trade to more than $ 100 billion annually. Currently there is a bilateral trade of about $ 60 billion between the two countries.
Modi went to Russia twice in 2024
PM Modi visited Russia twice in 2024. He went to Russia on 22 October for the BRICS Summit. Earlier in July too, Modi visited a two -day Russia. Then he invited Putin to come to India.
Russia gave the country’s highest honor ‘Order of Saint Andrew the Aptal’ to PM Narendra Modi in Moscow on 9 July last year. President Vladimir Putin himself honored him.
Putin is escaping from traveling to other countries after the arrest warrant is issued In March 2023, ICC issued an arrest warrant against Putin. The court held Putin responsible for War Crime on the basis of allegations of kidnapping and Departation of children in Ukraine.
This was the first time ICC issued an arrest warrant against the top leader of a permanent member country of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). America, Russia, China, Britain and France are permanent members of UNSC.
Since then, Putin has been avoiding traveling to other countries. He did not come to India to attend the G20 summit last year. This year has not participated in the G20 Summit in Brazil this year. He was replaced by both Foreign Minister Sergei Lavarov both participated in the program.
India is the second largest buyer of Russian oil
India is the largest buyer of Russian oil after China. Before the Ukraine War, India used to import only 0.2% (68 thousand barrels per day) from Russia. By May 2023 it increased to 45% (2 million barrels per day), while India is buying 17.8 lakh barrels of oil from Russia every day from January to July in 2025.
For the last two years, India has been buying more than $ 130 billion (Rs 11.33 lakh crore) every year.
