President Draupadi Murmu has appealed to the celebs of the film industry not to advertise products which are harmful to health. He said that popular artists have a deep impact on children and youth.
Addressing the 72nd National Film Awards ceremony in Gujarat on Tuesday, Murmu said, “Film artistes who are very popular have immense potential to influence the countrymen, especially the youth. When successful film artists talk about the benefits of a disciplined lifestyle, crores of children and youth emulate them.
She further added, “I would like to request that popular artists should not endorse substances that are harmful to health. A star is one who spreads light, not darkness.”

Appeal for respect and social security in the film industry
President Murmu demanded greater participation of women in the jury selecting films for the National Film Awards. “I want to ensure participation of women in every regional jury,” she said. She further said, “Including women’s perspective in any field creates a perspective that looks at humans from every aspect.”
Notice to actors in Vimal cardamom advertisement case
President Murmu’s comments come days after Maharashtra FDA’s notice to Shahrukh Khan, Ajay Devgan and Tiger Shroff in the Vimal cardamom advertisement case.
It is noteworthy that Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration had issued show cause notices to Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgan and Tiger Shroff in the case related to Vimal Cardamom advertisement.
According to Maharashtra FDA, this campaign could be an indirect or surrogate promotion of Vimal Pan Masala. Vimal Pan Masala is banned in the state.
In the notice, clarification was sought from the three actors regarding their participation in this campaign.
This matter has also reached the court. Delhi High Court dismisses PB Agro LLP’s plea challenging Maharashtra FDA notice. These notices were issued regarding the alleged surrogate promotion of Pan Masala through Vimal Elaichi campaign.
Akshay had decided not to advertise Pan Masala
The controversy of Vimal Pan Masala advertisement related to Akshay Kumar was much talked about in the year 2022. Akshay Kumar was seen in Vimal’s advertisement with Ajay Devgan and Shahrukh Khan. After this, Akshay’s fans criticized him on social media. Fans said that an actor who talks about fitness and healthy lifestyle should not promote the pan masala brand.
After the controversy escalated, Akshay Kumar had apologized to the fans on social media. He had also decided to step down as the brand ambassador of Vimal. Akshay had also said that he would donate the endorsement fees received from the advertisement to some good cause.
However, after another advertisement of Vimal came out in October 2023, Akshay was trolled again. People had raised the question that when he had withdrawn from the advertisement, then how could he be seen in it again.
Akshay Kumar had given clarification on this. He had told that he had not shot this advertisement new. This shoot was done in October 2021 itself. Due to the length of the contract, the company had the right to air the old advertisement. Akshay had made it clear that he would not shoot such advertisements in future.
